Good Morning Everybody!
I hope you all had a safe Independence Day. 🧨🎇🎆
Now it's time for another random ✨️Did you know?✨ post.️ This topic is something I'm passionate about because, as most of my regular clients know, I was born with a birth defect so technically I am disabled. So buckle up, this is going to be a long post of information that I think is worth knowing. 😊
July is ✨️Disability Pride Month✨️
Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July to honor the history, achievements, and experiences of the disability community. It coincides with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. The month aims to challenge ableism and promote disability as a natural part of human diversity. The observance first began in 1990—the same year the ADA was passed—as a one-day event in Boston, and later expanded into a month-long celebration in July 2015 . Its core concepts are deeply rooted in the disability rights movement. It marks a significant shift away from viewing disabilities as shameful conditions to be hidden, instead celebrating disabled people as positive contributors to society.
The Disability Pride Flag features five muted diagonal stripes on a charcoal gray background . Each element represents a specific aspect of the disability experience, chosen carefully to be visually accessible and protest ableism.
Charcoal Gray Background: Represents mourning and rage for victims of ableist violence and institutional neglect.
Red Stripe: Represents physical disabilities and mobility impairments.
Gold Stripe: Symbolizes neurodiversity, cognitive, and intellectual disabilities.
White Stripe: Stands for invisible and undiagnosed disabilities.
Blue Stripe: Reflects psychiatric and mental health disabilities.
Green Stripe: Represents sensory disabilities, including deafness and blindness.
The diagonal band signifies "cutting across" the barriers and walls that segregate disabled people from society.
Massage therapy provides vital relief for individuals with disabilities by reducing chronic pain, decreasing spasticity, and boosting circulation. Tailored therapies enhance mobility, calm sensory processing issues, and improve mental well-being. This integrative care ultimately helps clients function more independently in their daily lives. Physical limitations—whether from paralysis, cerebral palsy, or the daily use of mobility aids—create specific compensation patterns in the body. Licensed therapists can adapt sessions using specialized or to address these targeted issues:
Pain and Spasticity Relief: Regular massage reduces chronic muscle tension and pain severity, helping to manage discomfort associated with spinal cord injuries and fibromyalgia. For individuals with Cerebral Palsy, it helps regulate muscle tone and relieves associated digestive issues like constipation.
Improved Circulation and Edema: For wheelchair-bound individuals or those with paralysis, lymphatic massage improves venous and lymphatic return. This helps prevent or heal complications like bedsores and reduces localized edema.
Sensory and Emotional Regulation: For individuals on the Autism Spectrum, therapeutic touch calms muscle spasms and helps the body adjust to tactile stimulation. This often leads to better sleep and improved communication and social relatedness.
Trauma-Informed Care: Massage offers a comforting, non-invasive experience for a population that often endures frequent, intensive medical interventions.
Because accessibility is paramount, many independent practitioners and therapists utilize electric or hydraulic tables that lower to the height of a wheelchair to facilitate easy transfers.

✨️Hello Everybody!✨️
Thought I would share something a little random but educational. When I was learning the bones and muscles in school... one way I learned how many lumbar, thoracic, and cervical bones made up the spine was:
Breakfast is at 7am (cervical)
Lunch is at 12 Noon (thoracic)
Dinner is at 5pm (lumbar)
Did you learn something new with this fun fact? Here's another fun fact; I have a massage opportunity for you at 6:15, after dinner time. Come relax with me tonight. 😊
