This was her first time having her teeth whitened so I used the hybrid gel! The hybrid gel has 20% Hydrogen Peroxide and 10% Carbamide Peroxide. HP breaks down faster which helps get the instant white results we love and CP helps the results last longer by slowly releasing and whitening the teeth even after the appointment has ended. For her next appointment, we will use the 35% gel to get even more of a pop!

REMINDER: Just like working out or getting a facial, you need to be consistent in order to see the results you want, ESPECIALLY if you have never had a professional chair side teeth whitening done. Sometimes it takes 2-4 appointments to get the results you want. Dentin, genetics and age play a big role in how quickly or slowly you’ll see the results you want as well as your maintenance at home!

Tips to decrease sensitivity when whitening your teeth!!

✨ Drink 60-100 Oz of water before your appointment. When we whiten your teeth, we are taking the hydration out of your teeth. Think of it like drinking a cup of water. If your you’re super thirsty and drinking a cup of water, once it’s gone you are still thirsty but there is nothing left to drink. Our teeth are the same way. Once the hydration is gone, your teeth become more sensitive which is why drinking a lot beforehand is important!

✨ Use Sensodyne or Pronamel toothpaste! Both of these will help decrease sensitivity while Pronamel also helps build up your enamel. The thicker your enamel, the less sensitive your teeth will be.

✨ Ask your tech about desensitizing gel! This will help create a barrier for your teeth before the application of the gel and it will also help post-appointment with any sensitivity you may experience.

✨ Use a straw! If you love your Starbucks drinks just as much as I do, use a straw to keep the hot and cold drinks away from your teeth. This will also reduce staining from dark colored drinks.

✨ Stay away from too many acidic foods! Too much acidic food will damage your enamel and weaken your gum line which will expose the inner layer of your teeth. This will expose the nerve endings which creates sensitivity of the teeth.

When Whitening your teeth, it’s important to remember that everybody’s teeth has a natural stopping point. This is because each of us has a different shade of dentin which sits behind the enamel of a tooth. For some, it can be lighter while others may have it darker. This and genetics will dictate if your teeth can go 5 or 15 shades whiter than they were initially.
