Just a little heads up that I am still planning on going to Florida, but just leaving later due to the passing of a loved one in our family. I will be able to do accommodate appointments until Tuesday, October 25th and will be returning to the salon, Monday, November 7th. Thank you all for understanding and for sending so much love to us the last few days. You are the best 😘.

Dear Clients,

I hope this message finds you all well! As many of you know, Jim works for a company based out of Fort Myers, Florida, and will need to be doing some traveling this fall. I decided to join him! With that being said, I will be gone from Friday, October 14- Saturday, November 5. My last day at the salon in October will be Wednesday, October 12 and I’ll be returning Monday, November 7.

I would strongly recommend booking appointments sooner rather than later so I can do my very best to accommodate everyone prior to leaving or upon returning home.

Thank you all for your continuous support. I appreciate and love you all! You allow me to have the freedom to do what I love. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Please be well and don’t hesitate to reach out! ♥️

Spring is in the air.

NYE wedding hair 🌟.

Doing wedding hair is very fun, but can also be very stressful for a hairstylist (& the wedding party). It’s a super important day and usually super busy! I did 7 styles today in 5 hours. I was only able to capture this textured half up style quickly. What do ya think?

I was thinking on my way home and realized the reasons that today went as smoothly as it did considering all the work my coworker and I did. I came up with a list for fellow hairstylists. Here’s a few tips to tackle the day with as little stress as possible...
1.) Pack all tools, products, accessories, pins, etc... the night before.
1.) Lay out your outfit the night before too. No time for messing around in the morning! For example, I was up at 4 AM today 🤪.
2.) Wear solid colors and nothing too bright or flashy. It’s not about you. Well, at least not for that day 😜.
3.) If you like to workout like me, get in a quick workout to get your energy flowing! 4.) If you are addicted to coffee like me, set that up the night before as well!
5.) Make time to eat breakfast! You won’t have any time for eating once you get going. Pack water and a snack for the ride home.
6.) TMI and I sound like a Mom, but I’ll say it. Go p*e before you start! You also won’t have much time for bathroom breaks.
7.) Finally, have some freakin’ FUN 🙌🏻! It’s a wedding and one of the happiest days of people’s lives. No one wants to work with a doom and gloom crabby hairstylist. Be happy! Be fun! Enjoy the day ❤️!

Hi 👋 to all my lovely loyal clients!
I have an announcement to make. Jim and I, after a few discussions, decided we will go take a little trip to Florida. We will be gone from Sunday, October 11-Friday, October 16.

I know some of you may be uneasy about this and that is totally understandable, but maybe some facts will help to put you at ease. Florida is not on the quarantine list any longer (why we are going now) and is averaging less cases per day than Illinois according to chicago.gov. We stay at our family’s home, visit family, and plan on eating outside as much as possible.

I am informing my clients so they can book accordingly. Please be assured that if Florida does go back onto the quarantine list, I have no problem adjusting my travel plans. Be safe. Be well. Be healthy. Love, Katie 😘

Working on a holiday? Yay or nay?
I honestly don’t mind it. One, I get to work as many hours as I want. The boss said so 😜. Two, I was able to spend time with my sister and create this traditional highlight and lowlight.

Let’s talk business. More specially, let’s talk about money 💰. I know it’s uncomfortable to talk about, but I’m willing to discuss in this post.

I had a very interesting conversation with a client. Please note before reading any further, I am not trying to ridicule anyone. I’m simply making a point. I received a phone call from a client where I was informed that she could not attend her appointment because my prices were too high and she found someone who could do the same services for half 🧐. I wasn’t sure if she wanted me to price match? I’m not being unsympathetic here at all. I know what it is like to not be able to work. Trust me. My household lived with it for ten weeks during this difficult time. I know what it feels like to fall onto hard financial times. I know what it feels like to live check to check. I’m in no way, shape, or form making fun of someone’s finances at all. I was very sympathetic and wished her well with her job endeavors and her hair appointment with her new stylist and I truly meant it. I gave her credit and thanked her for calling and telling me something so difficult. Most people would have just not showed up.

So why am I sharing this?

I’m sharing this to let hairstylists know that’s it’s okay to charge what you are charging. It’s okay to not discount. Our industry was hit and we were hit hard like so many others. As an independent hairstylist, one has to save for taxes and retirement (no pensions here),buy all products and tools, pay for rent and insurance. There is a lot of overhead, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m not saying to overcharge, but simply know the value of your worth. Compared to other stylists in your area, are you charging fairly for someone with your skill level? If the answer is yes, then I believe you are charging appropriately. Business may never be the same. That goes across the board and not just for the beauty business. As a hairstylist, I know we tend to be people pleasers, so this can be hard to do. All I can say is do your homework. Do what feels right. Don’t feel pressured to offer discounts or promotions. As always, know the value of your worth. ❤️
