Today marks a hopeful new chapter in my life. With renewed faith, strength, and optimism, I’m beginning medication for Multiple Sclerosis—and choosing to believe that this next step can lead to brighter days ahead. But to understand why this moment means so much, let’s rewind to where my journey began…

My journey didn’t begin today. It began in late 2023, when I was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis.

I won’t share every detail, but I remember that experience as though it happened yesterday. I was admitted to the hospital after developing numbness on the left side of my cheek and jaw. The emergency room doctors initially believed I might be experiencing a stroke.

After lab work, an EKG, a CT scan, and an numerous MRI’s, the doctor explained that most of my test results were clear—but the MRI revealed some areas of concern that required further evaluation. Then I heard the words that completely changed my world: the probable cause of the numbness was MS.

I was overwhelmed because I didn’t know what that meant… Everything suddenly felt like a nightmare. I looked over at my husband, who had apparently been holding my hand without me even realizing it. Although I could see the concern in his eyes, he reassured me that everything would be okay.

But in that moment, with tears in my eyes, I couldn’t help wondering: Would it really be okay?

After what felt like the longest five days of my life—filled with more lab work, MRIs, and neurological testing—the diagnosis was confirmed. I received IV steroid treatment and was eventually sent home with instructions to follow up with a neurologist for continued care.

The beginning of my MS journey was frightening and far from pleasant. Unfortunately, my early experiences with neurological care left me feeling lost, confused, alone, and scared. That is another part of my story that I can share another day.

Today, however, I am grateful to say that I am in a much better place. I have a new neurologist who listens to me, supports me, and has helped me feel more confident about managing my condition. For the first time in a long time, I feel hopeful about the road ahead.

As I begin this next chapter, I want to use my voice to help bring awareness to Multiple Sclerosis. MS may be part of my story, but it does not define who I am.

I am moving forward with faith, strength, hope, and the love and support of those who care about me—one day and one step at a time. 🧡💙
