Unpopular opinion: Layers aren’t always the answer to getting more volume or making your hair feel thicker.

There, I said it! 😂

Layers can create the appearance of more volume when styled, but without that styling, they can actually leave fine hair feeling thinner.

A great layered haircut should work with your hair, not against it. The layers should blend seamlessly and come to life when you style them.

So let’s be real about your routine. Are you a round-brush-and-blow-dry girl or an air-dry-and-go girl? Because your haircut should fit your lifestyle, not give you another chore.

For fine hair, sometimes a blunt cut is exactly what you need for fuller-looking ends.

The pictures speak for themselves! Look at how thick and healthy her hair looks are a big chop and blunt cut ends.

The bixie is still one of my favorite haircuts.

Not quite a bob, not quite a pixie… just the right amount of both.

Today we rebalanced her layers, removed some heavy corners, and cleaned up the shape so everything could work together again. ✂️

Her grown out layers had created a disconnection between the top/sides and the bottom length. All that weight had built up around her shoulders, creating the dreaded ✨triangle poof✨ while the longer ends were left looking thin.

Our goal today? Rebalance the shape, remove the excess weight, and keep her ends healthy so she can continue growing her hair long.

One of my favorite things about a good haircut is when it grows out beautifully. I want my clients to be able to go longer between appointments without feeling like their haircut has completely fallen apart.

The goal isn’t just for your hair to look good on day one, it should still look good weeks later.

After a committed two year relationship with her hair straightener, it was time to part ways. They both had grown and moved on, well the hair straightener not so much…

We chopped off about 5 inches and added some soft layering so her curls had room to bounce back up. I won’t lie, I was nervous to see how they might spring up (or not) as first. But baby those curls are back! And with a little TLC they’ll grow long and bouncy. ❤️😘
