Lets talk about those nose clearings pics I see other professionals post. I preach this daily, and HAD to share 🎉

Clearing a nose of sebaceous filaments may look & feel good at the moment, but it's a TEMPORARY fix. And, what's worse, it reinforces the idea to the client that they have blackheads on their nose when they do not.

That's right, what you see on the nose is most likely sebaceous filaments & NOT blackheads.

Oil production begins on the nose & spreads out across the face. The nose is the oil production center of the face, this is why it so often looks like it is filled with clogged pores. They aren't actually "clogged", they are producing sebum.

Look at the nose & notice how far down the sides & onto the cheeks they are shiny. Few people have oil that extends all the way to the ears, this explains why some people experience dryness in their cheeks. But you will be able to see the extent of their oil production.

In this pic, you can see one blackhead/comedone amongst many sebaceous filaments. The comedone is larger than the SF & you can see that it has compacted skin cells in it.

Sebaceous filaments are just pools of oil, & comedones are a mixture of sebum & skin cells. Comedones are what can become inflamed acne lesions if they become infected with our friend C. Acnes bacteria.

Sebaceous filaments can never be eradicated, nor do you want them to be. They contribute to the skin's protective acid mantle. They refill daily as skin never stops doing its job. Sebaceous filaments can also be found on the chin and between the brows. This is known as the T-Zone.

A blackhead is a non-inflamed lesion where the pore remains open to the air, it is an “open comedone”. The top of the plug darkens as it is exposed to oxygen in the environment.

Keep skin clean & hydrated. Stop trying to extract sebaceous filaments. A good salicylic will do the job. Don't be mislead with those extraction pics.
