Today we share our 10th and final AVT Standard, and this one speaks directly to the heart of who we are.

At A Virtuous Touch, TEAM matters.

I’ve always envisioned AVT as something bigger than one person, one chair, or even one generation. Developing people is part of our succession plan and part of how we prepare the next generation to take what we’ve learned and do it even better.

Years ago, I taught an intensive called “Who’s Holding Your Ladder?”

The lesson was simple: while you’re climbing, somebody is often holding the ladder—teaching, supporting, directing, encouraging, and sometimes pushing you toward the next level.

But growth requires coachability.

You have to be willing to learn, receive correction, apply what you’ve been taught, and remain humble enough to be developed.

And I’ve learned something else along the way:

Sometimes I’m holding your ladder.
Sometimes you’re holding mine.

That’s TEAM.

My vision for succession extends beyond my daughter and business partner. I want to develop professionals who understand AVT’s culture, uphold its standards, and have the capacity to lead and carry this vision into the next generation—and perhaps one day, even into another AVT location.

Because true legacy isn’t simply leaving something to the next generation.

It’s leaving something IN them.

We began this series with:

“We don’t simply hire professionals. We develop leaders.”

And we end it with:

“Coachability is the bridge between talent and success.”

“My goal is to broaden my experience and become a licensed professional. I want to provide exceptional service while building the meaningful interpersonal relationships I see throughout the salon.”

Her goals beautifully align with the AVT culture. We believe talent should be nurtured, education should be ongoing, and every professional should have a clear path toward career development and leadership.

Integrity is never compromising principles for profit.

When it comes to integrity, it’s not simply something you practice when it’s convenient. It becomes a consistent part of who you are.

When you operate in integrity, it shows up in your everyday decisions—especially the ones no one else sees.

It’s consistent pricing.
It’s using professional products.
It’s keeping your word.
It’s honoring your commitments.
It’s being honest with your clients.
It’s living out the culture and standards you say your business represents.

And most importantly, those principles don’t change because profit is involved.

There will be moments in business when compromising might make you more money. There may be a service you could perform, a product you could sell, or a decision you could make that would increase the ticket—but if it requires you to compromise what you know is right, integrity has to win.

Healthy relationships are sustained through intentional communication.

We talk a lot about building relationships at AVT—but building them is only the beginning.

Healthy relationships have to be sustained.

And one of the greatest tools we have to sustain them is communication.

1. Communication with our clients about their goals, expectations, concerns, maintenance and changes.

2. Communication with one another as a team so that assumptions don’t become misunderstandings and misunderstandings don’t become unnecessary conflict.

3. Communication from leadership that creates clarity, accountability and room for growth.

Sometimes intentional communication means listening.

Sometimes it means asking the question.

Sometimes it means addressing something uncomfortable instead of avoiding it.

And sometimes it simply means following up and making sure the other person knows, “I heard you.”

Because whether we’re building a relationship with a client, coworker or leader, we can’t expect people to understand what we never communicate.
