Ever wonder why gluten sensitivity and celiac is on the rise? It is not just the glyphosate know as round up but also pest resistant wheat 🌾. Meaning the wheat has been genetically modified to resist pests by altering the DNA of the wheat 🌾 to inforce more chromosomes in this plant then we humans have in the chromosome department.

Resulting in food allergies, intolerance, and celiac disease cases rising.

The potential human health risks of pest-resistant wheat depend entirely on how the resistance is achieved. Genetic engineering (GMOs), traditional hybridization, and gene editing each present different variables.

1. Increased Pesticide Residues (For Herbicide/Pest-Tolerant Systems)

Some genetically modified wheats, such as HB4 wheat, are engineered to withstand environmental stressors and tolerate specific chemical applications like glufosinate-ammonium.
• The Risk: Critics and health advocacy groups note that spraying these chemicals directly on the crops can leave chemical residues in finished foods like bread and cereal. Glufosinate is banned in the European Union due to data linking it to potential reproductive toxicity, developmental harm, and neurotoxicity.

2. Changes in Allergenicity and Protein Structures

When a plant is altered to fight off pests, the proteins responsible for that defense can sometimes impact human digestion.
• Altered Gluten and Proteins: Selective breeding and modification aimed at making modern wheat tougher against pests have occasionally changed the proportions of gluten proteins (like gliadin). Some gastrointestinal and immunology studies suggest these altered profiles may contribute to the rise in non-celiac gluten sensitivity or trigger stronger reactions in individuals with wheat allergies.
• Expression of New Allergenic Proteins: For GMO varieties, a primary scientific concern is "intrabody allergenicity"—whether the newly introduced pest-defending gene synthesizes a protein that causes unexpected allergic or anaphylactic reactions in humans. (Note: Regulatory bodies like the FDA and WHO mandate strict weight-of-evidence testing to ensure new proteins break down easily in the stomach before market approval).

3. Elevated Natural Antinutrients

Plants naturally produce chemical defenses to ward off insects, and breeding for higher pest resistance can inadvertently increase these compounds.
• Phytates and Lectins: Strains bred for extreme resilience may express higher levels of Wheat Germ Agglutinin (WGA) or phytates, which serve as natural pest deterrents. In humans, highly elevated phytates can act as "antinutrients," binding to essential minerals (like iron, zinc, and magnesium) in the gut and reducing their absorption.

The Medical and Scientific Consensus

Health regulators emphasize that pest-resistant wheat is not inherently toxic. In fact, many varieties reduce human health risks. For example, wheat bred to resist fungal pests significantly lowers the risk of mycotoxins (toxic fungal byproducts like deoxynivalenol), which cause severe food poisoning and long-term organ damage if consumed.

🔥 MOVE OVER, TRADITIONAL SIT-UPS! 🔥

Want to challenge your core without doing endless sit-ups? Try the Knee & Toe Touch Crunch!

This exercise can feel more effective than a traditional sit-up because it combines core flexion with alternating reaches, requiring more coordination and helping you engage multiple muscles throughout your midsection.

💪 WHY I LIKE IT:

✔️ Targets the re**us abdominis — your “six-pack” muscles
✔️ Engages the obliques as you reach across the body
✔️ Challenges core stability and coordination
✔️ Incorporates the hip flexors as you bring the knee toward the torso
✔️ Can create a strong abdominal contraction without repeatedly coming all the way up into a full sit-up

Traditional sit-ups can still strengthen the core, but they also rely heavily on the hip flexors. A controlled knee-and-toe-touch crunch lets you focus on slowing the movement down, tightening the abdominal muscles, and controlling each repetition.

⭐ TRY THIS:
Perform 10–15 controlled reps per side for 2–3 rounds.

Remember: quality beats quantity! Exhale as you crunch, keep your core tight, and avoid pulling on your neck.

Strong abs aren’t just about appearance. A stronger core helps support posture, balance, stability, and everyday movement.

💚 After 40, don’t just exercise harder—train smarter.

🍦 YESTERDAY I ASKED… WHO LOVES ICE CREAM?

And judging by the poll, I’m definitely alone lol 😋 I am not a fan of ice cream 🍨. I have to be really in the mood to eat it. But I know a lot of my clients love ice cream.

So today, let’s talk about THE SCOOP ON ICE CREAM — the GOOD, the NOT-SO-GOOD & some BETTER OPTIONS!

🥛 THE GOOD
Traditional ice cream made with real dairy can provide:
• Calcium and phosphorus
• Some protein
• Vitamin B12 and vitamin A
• Fat, which helps with satisfaction and slows digestion

And let’s not forget—food is also meant to be enjoyed! Having ice cream occasionally as part of an overall balanced diet is very different from eating a large bowl every night.

⚠️ THE NOT-SO-GOOD
Many commercial ice creams can be high in:
• Added sugar
• Saturated fat
• Calories in a relatively small serving

Some varieties also contain gums, emulsifiers, artificial flavors and colors. These ingredients aren’t automatically harmful for everyone, but people with digestive sensitivities may tolerate certain products better than others.

The BIG thing I look at is blood sugar. A large serving of ice cream—especially by itself—can deliver quite a bit of sugar at once. For someone working on blood-sugar balance, insulin resistance or weight management, portion and frequency matter.

🍓 BETTER ICE CREAM OPTIONS
Try making your frozen treat work a little harder nutritionally:

🍌 Frozen banana “nice cream” blended with natural peanut or almond butter
🫐 Greek yogurt + berries frozen into bites or pops
🥥 Unsweetened coconut-milk ice cream with simple ingredients
🍓 Frozen strawberries blended with Greek yogurt
🥜 Higher-protein, lower-added-sugar ice creams
🍫 Homemade chocolate protein “ice cream” made with Greek yogurt, cocoa and your preferred sweetener

💡 HOLISTIC TIP: If you want the REAL ice cream, you don’t necessarily have to replace it!

Have a reasonable portion, enjoy it after a balanced meal containing protein and fiber, and take a 10–15 minute walk afterward. That can be a much different metabolic experience than sitting down hungry with a carton and a spoon. 😉

🍦 BOTTOM LINE:
Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean NEVER eating ice cream.

It means understanding what you’re eating, how much you’re eating, and how it affects YOUR body.

Now I want to know…

👇 Are you choosing REAL ICE CREAM, a healthier alternative, or BOTH?

✨ SMART PATCHES: SUPPORT YOUR BODY—WITHOUT ANOTHER PILL! ✨

What if supporting better sleep, balance, stability, and everyday movement could be as simple as wearing a patch?

I’ve been learning more about Super Patch technology, and two patches that really stand out for everyday wellness are REM and LIBERTY.

🌙 REM PATCH — REST & RECOVERY

Quality sleep is when our bodies do some of their most important recovery work. The REM Patch is designed to support:

💤 Deeper, more restful sleep
💤 Longer sleep duration
💤 A more balanced sleep cycle
💤 Fewer nighttime interruptions
💤 Waking feeling more refreshed—without the groggy feeling associated with some sleep aids

Apply REM when you’re getting ready for bed and remove it when you wake up.

🚶‍♀️ LIBERTY PATCH — BALANCE & MOBILITY

Movement matters at EVERY age! Liberty is designed to support the brain-body connection involved in:

✨ Balance
✨ Stability
✨ Mobility
✨ Strength and body control
✨ Confidence with everyday movement

This can be especially appealing for active adults, older adults, or anyone wanting additional support for maintaining healthy movement and independence.

🧠 SO WHAT MAKES THESE PATCHES DIFFERENT?

These aren’t medication patches and they don’t deliver a drug, supplement, C*D, or chemical into your body.

Super Patch uses a patterned surface the company calls Vibrotactile Technology (VTT). The idea is that contact between the pattern and your skin provides sensory input intended to influence the body’s neural response.

✔️ 100% drug-free
✔️ Non-invasive
✔️ No C*D
✔️ No supplement to swallow
✔️ Easy to incorporate into your daily wellness routine

I love looking at ways we can support the body while continuing to focus on the foundations that matter most—nutrition, movement, sleep, hydration, stress management, and healthy lifestyle choices.

🌿 Health isn’t about one magic solution. It’s about giving your body the support it needs to function at its best.
