In the United States, threading has become popular for the removal of facial hair. This technique results in clean lines and in the case of eyebrows, and excellent shape. It works by using 100 percent cotton thread that is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin, entwining the hair in the thread and lifting it out the follicle. Unlike waxing, the hair is pulled directly from the root, preventing ingrown hairs. Additionally, threading causes little redness or soreness when compared to waxing. Since threading does not remove layers of skin, this technique is ideal for persons with sensitive skin or those who use Retin-A, Accutane and similar products. If threading is done consistently, the hair follicle is weakened and becomes less dense so there is less or no growth. Sugaring is an ancient all natural, organic method dating back to the Egyptians. Relatively new to the United States, it is still very popular in Arab countries. It is an alternative for those who have sensitive skin or who react to waxes with bumps and redness.
