"Grief myth #2: ""Be strong for everyone else."
This is one I hear often — especially from parents, caregivers, and military families.
You had to hold it together. Someone needed you. There wasn't time to fall apart.
And so you didn't. You stayed strong. You kept going. You buried the grief and kept moving.
I understand. And I don't say this to criticize. Staying strong is sometimes the only way to survive.
But here's what I've learned after walking alongside grieving people for over 20 years:
Strength isn't silence. And suppressed grief doesn't disappear. It goes underground — and resurfaces later as anxiety, numbness, anger, exhaustion, or distance in relationships.
You are allowed to grieve. Even if you are the strong one. Even if others are depending on you.
In fact, doing your own grief work may be one of the most powerful things you can do for the people you love.

Grief myth #3: "Just keep busy and move on."
After a loss, the world has a lot of advice.
Get back to work. Stay active. Fill your days. Keep moving forward.
And busyness does help — in the immediate aftermath, having something to do can feel like a lifeline.
But staying busy is not the same as healing.
It's one of the most common ways people avoid grief — not because they don't care, but because stopping and feeling is terrifying.
The problem is, grief doesn't disappear while you're busy. It waits. It accumulates. And when it eventually surfaces — at 2am, at a holiday dinner, at the sound of a familiar song — it can feel more overwhelming than ever.
You don't have to stay in motion to survive grief.
Healing is possible when you stop running and start processing. The Grief Recovery Method® gives you the tools to do exactly that.
