If you have been following me for a while, you probably know one of my favorite sayings is 💖
Yes this is true for yoga, but it's true for EVERYTHING 🌎
Of course, you know this. Everyone KNOWS this. The more you do something, the easier it gets. From walking to talking to driving to working. Then why do we still judge and criticize ourselves when trying something new, even the simple things?
A quick convo with an old friend (hi ) got me thinking 🤔
Growing up - my hair was mine and my MOTHER's biggest nemesis. It was different and "frizzy" and all I wanted was straight hair like everyone else 👩
It has always been a "thing" in my life. From being teased and many fights & tears, to waiting lists for the “sapphire” straightener (well before was ever a thing) and trains into Boston to get it chemically straightened, to giving my mom tennis elbow from blow drying so much (and my father a coronary on how much time/money/electricity we spent!) to eventually picking because my hair looked so good when I visited 🤦‍♀️ (I also got a scholarship to the School of Journalism but.... )
Over the years, I have learned how to do MY hair, MY way. With LOTS of trial and error and PRACTICE. My mother and I still laugh and give each other a "look" whenever I get a compliment - because we KNOW what we went through to get here
Oh and she always said I would like it when I was older and to embrace my curls but I wasn’t ready to listen 👩‍🦱

Old news: Looks can be deceiving 😈😈😈
In each of these poses, the “less” extreme version is actually where I feel the most work 😱
But my ego likes to show off how far I can push myself, so I have to constantly remind myself to do less and engage more. And...if you tend to give into your ego 🙋‍♀️, the universe just might ✨gift✨ you a lower back injury as a not so gentle reminder

Lots of things are going on right now that are out of my control. In the past, I would have become obsessed, emotionally invested and frozen by indecision on the BEST action to take.
I’ve learned that despite what is happening outside, I can find peace within myself. AND do something about it (anything!). They do not have to be exclusive of one another 🙌🏼
Edited to add: I am OK. This is more about what’s going on in our country (in 2019!!!) + a valuable lesson for life ✌🏼
