Humans are unique in our ability to dole out miracles and tragedies in equal measure.

I can't help but think that if we spent more time focusing on the miracles we would be better off collectively as a species and individually as sovereign beings.

Yes, we CAN deal miracles and tragedies in equal measure, but we don't have to. If you feel like the algorithm is feeding you an overwhelming amount of tragedy, shift your focus. Look for the miracles. Be someone else's miracle.

Make this a simple goal in your life, forgive yourself and others for the tragedies and set them aside to make space for the miracles.

Miracles can be small and still be mighty, be someone's miracle. Show kindness. Its that easy. For someone else you will be the miracle that makes the tragedy bearable.

We did a thing!

We have a new itty bitty pantry to add to the network sponsored by healinghandkc.com. It is located at:
Avondale City Offices
3007 Missouri Hwy 10, Kansas City, MO 64117.

Thanks to my friend and partner from noble-peasant.com Terry Middleton for the construction and his wife Chamayn for the adorable paint job. Handle hardware was forged by me at Torsviggar Forge.

Thanks to Willa Jessee and husband Chuck and the town of Avondale for giving us a place to install our creation. May it serve the community well.

Also thanks to Christine Cullen Pavlich and the entire network of people contributing to the cause.

Great News. As many know Healing Hand Massage supports the Itty Bitty Pantry Project as it's local charity of choice.

Recently, I reached out to Matt Victor the General Manager of the Kansas City North Menards. They have agreed to sponsor Itty Bitty for their June/July food drive.

I am very excited to have the store's support in our efforts to support our community. So please show Menards some love and drop some donations in the bin to support Itty Bitty.

A Mother's Love is Constant.

It isn't always loud. Often you may not even see it, but it is constant and it comes at a cost. It is given freely, but Mom pays a price.

She pays with her mental, emotional and physical resources. It shows up in all the small moments we can too easily take for granted.

The quiet sacrifices. The patient words. The worry. The tears and prayers no one else hears. The toll is paid under the table with Mom's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual resources continually everyday, because a mother's love is constant.

She runs her needle to empty over and over again because she is a mom.

It is time for Mom to refuel, replenish and reset her resources.

Give her the time and space needed to be nurtured and rejuvenated.

Riverside. Lots of snacks in this one and a few items melting in the sun. Traded out two of the six bags of corn flakes for a couple boxes of fun cereal for the kiddos. Added some protein and more canned goods and Mac and cheese to round it out a bit.

Parkville looking a little ransacked but not empty. Pulled some trash out straightened it up a little and added a few snacks. Checking Riverside next.

This Pantry was filled yesterday before the storm. By the next morning, despite the storm, empty. It shows us how much these pantries are needed.
We can really use help keeping these full. If anyone would like to make donations of food or other resources please let me know.
Also check out the Itty Bitty Food Pantry page for more information.

Thank you.

I wish more people talked about the fact that your body doesn't relax when it is told to. It relaxes when it feels safe.

For the body to release the tension spurred by the outside world, it must recognize it is safe from the outside world. More than half of a therapist's job is to provide setting, circumstance and care allowing the client to feel safe.

Without this, the therapist can press all the common pressure points and stimulate tissues superficial, deep or otherwise and it will not make as much difference as if they just provided a touch of safety. If sense of safety is not achieved, the client's autonomic nervous system will not switch itself from sympathetic (fight or flight) to the para-sympathetic (wine and dine). It will keep firing in the learned sequence and conditioned patterns it faces daily. Changing those patterns to those of safety is where therapeutic value and meaningful benefit begins.

For the past 27 years my focus has been on how best to serve my clients. I have discovered the first key is to build trust bond relationships that matter. To do this takes more than applying knowledge, skill and technique. It also means listening and addressing concerns; taking the time necessary for the client to let go of the outside influences of the world and help them be in the moment with grace and ease.

Safety first. Therapy follows.
