UPDATE: We will be open on Wednesday 2/25 😎 Hopefully Peabody Police Department will enforce the vehicles that have been parking in The City of Peabody - Government Parking Lots since Saturday night. Be nice if they cleared out vehicles overnight tonight or tomorrow night to remove snow. They used to do that after every snow storm 2 days later. Unfortunately we had to close today due to the lack of attention to The City of Peabody - Government municipal parking lot that we are located in. For tomorrow, I apologize to all my customers & patrons to downtown Peabody. Finally you can pass through without getting stuck, but there is still very limited parking. In the past they have banned parking overnight after a storm to remove the snow. I don't know what changed this year. Regardless, I'll continue to properly manage my property and do whats in my control. In front of my barbershop is clear and safe. See you soon💈❤️

Our Story
Barber Shoppe off the Square was founded by Paul McGinnity who wanted to carry on the tradition of George’s, a local barbershop in Peabody Square since 1948. Originally owned & operated by George Couris, a Peabody police officer, it was a central spot for men to get a haircut and a hot shave - and catch up on local events, politics, and sports.
David Serpa, a master barber at Barber Shoppe off the Square, was a life long friend of George Couris and they lived just a few doors down from each other. In 1993, David went to work at the shop and fifteen years later, bought George’s business which he owned until late 2014.
Paul McGinnity began working at George’s in 2013. Shortly after starting, the O’Shea building on the corner of Foster and Main Street, which was the home of the barbershop for over 70 years, was sold. That’s when he recognized the opportunity to continue the tradition of a local men’s barbershop - and hired David as a master barber and asked him to stay until he was ready to retire.
Paul and David worked until the last day at George’s. They left on October 31st, 2014 and Paul McGinnity, master barber turned entrepreneur opened Barber Shoppe off the Square on November 1st at a new location - 13 Rear Main Street, in the old Donn Carr Music building.
