Ever think your curls have lost their mind? Why do some sections of your hair look much longer than others, even though every hair on your head typically grows at the same speed. Why do some curls simply show more length?

It’s all based on your spring factor. Looser curls are going to show length much quicker than tighter curls. This is because the tighter Curls are too busy, spinning in a circle while looser curl are basically humming along on an even path all the way down.

So, what’s a girl to do?

Getting a dry cut will enable your stylist to see all the different spring factors in your curls and know how much to take off of each one. For instance, you might end up needing more length taken off of the looser curl patterns and only a dusting on the tighter curls, so that everybody is visually even.

Bangs can be an instant shape changer!!

But, if you’ve never had bangs or even super short face framing, then it can be kinda scary.

🌻Will they look good?

🌻Will I still be able to pull all of my hair back if needed?

🌻Will I be able to style it?

🌻How long will it take to grow out if I don’t like it🤪?

These are all legitimate concerns to discuss with your curl specialist 🙂

Feeling overwhelmed being a curly haired Mom and have a daughter with curls that are completely different than yours??

Sometimes you’re able to replicate your routine on her hair and everything comes out perfect but that’s not always the case.

🌻Here are some of my top recommendations:

*Try your same products on her but change up your technique. For example, if her curls are looser than yours, scrunching (or more scrunching) could be a game changer

* Play around with just how wet her hair is when applying her products

*If her hair density or length is different than yours, you’ll need to either increase or decrease product amounts

My favorite question to ask new clients, “What are you hoping to achieve by coming in to see a curl specialist? “.

This beauty; “ I would love to begin wearing my hair natural rather than using straighteners or curling irons. I would also love to see the wave curl potential that my hair has. I’ve never truly been taught how to care for it other than a couple YouTube videos, so I would love to learn as much as possible.”

It will take awhile of discontinuing the flat irons and curling irons in order to see her natural pattern. The excessive heat from these tools manipulates the hair and can cause your natural wavy/curly pattern to become lazy.

Don’t get me wrong, I love YouTube, but it has its demons for sure. Leading us down paths that are impossible to follow because we’re typically going to want to follow videos etc of what we would love for our curls to look like, not what they actually are. As my friend Kelly over likes to say “love the curl your with” 😃!!!

When you come in for your first appointment, have your listening ears on and you’re welcome to take notes because there is so much information to absorb.

She was on the struggle bus until,

She arrived for her new client curl session with concerns about flatness on top and wanting more volume in general. I could also see that her side sweep bangs were disconnected from her length.

Right away we talked about keeping her length, adding more movement to her shape (layers), different styling techniques for adding volume and product choices that didn’t involve sulphates or silicones and wouldn’t build up on her curls.

In the end, her curls now have bounce and a more unified shape

We used Innersense’s Hydrating Hairbath, a cocktail of Hydrating and Color Radiance conditioner also a cocktail of Serenity smoothing cream with I Create Hold.

Would it shock you if I said that frizz could be your friend😱

Frizz is pretty much a part of having curly hair. So why do we typically hate it so much?

Frizz, while it can make the curls you thought were so perfect turn out not so perfect creating all those little hairs that stick out everywhere and turn us into Mufasa.

But being Mufasa, (LOL), also means that functional frizz can help to give us more volume. I mean, haven’t you ever felt like your curls just kind of looked flat?

Maybe, what you really need is just a tiny touch of frizz in there. You could just loosely break up the curls at the scalp underneath, which will give lift to the rest of your hair.

We’ve got to rethink and wrap our brains around frizz. Use it to our advantage. It’s going to be around with us because it is a part of curly hair.

So make up your mind. Are you going to let it be your friend or your foe?
