Stylist will literally do EVERYTHING but pump that chair up. 😂😂

We did something DIFFERENT underneath her wig and there was a reason. 👀

Instead of braiding her natural hair down, we decided to flat twist it.

One of the biggest reasons?
Less tension.

When we’re working with natural hair, we don’t want to automatically use the same technique for every client. We consider the condition of the hair, the client’s needs and how we can create the style while being intentional about the health of the hair and scalp.

The flat twists gave her a great flat foundation for her wig while allowing access for her to maintain her scalp. Because a protective style should be protective not stressful on your hair. 🤎

If you watched Parts 1 & 2, you already know this client hadn’t had a trim or a haircut in 6 YEARS and initially did NOT want to cut her hair. 💇🏾‍♀️

After our conversation, she trusted me enough to let me start the process. 🌱
But then came the next conversation…
“We need to take a little more off to create the shape.”
She was hesitant. And I respected that.

Could I have cut more? Absolutely.
Would I have loved to shape it even more?
Honestly, yes.
But I’ve learned that sometimes the healthiest thing you can do for a client’s hair journey isn’t to do everything at once.
It’s to meet the client where they are.
My goal is always healthy hair, but I also want my clients to LOVE their hair when they leave my chair. 💜

So sometimes we take it in stages.
✨Build trust.
✨Educate.
✨Make progress.
✨And let the client get comfortable with the process.
Because at the end of the day, healthy hair AND a happy client can exist at the same time. 🤎

✂️ STYLISTS: Would you have cut more knowing how your client was feeling?
🙋🏽‍♀️ CLIENTS: Would you have let your stylist cut more to shape it in its curly stage?

And then she told me she hadn’t had a haircut since COVID. 😳

Once she understood what was happening with her ends and what the trim could do for the overall health and manageability of her hair, she decided it was time.
Sometimes you don’t need a stylist who’s going to tell you what you WANT to hear.
You need a stylist who’s going to educate you, explain the why and help you make the best decision for your hair.

And that’s exactly what this appointment was about.

And I get it. Nobody wants to sit in their stylist’s chair and hear, “We need to cut your hair.” 💇🏾‍♀️

But sometimes keeping every inch isn’t the same thing as keeping your hair healthy.
As a stylist, our job isn’t just to give you the style you asked for. It’s also to educate you, be honest about the condition of your hair and help you make decisions that protect your hair long-term.

And yes… sometimes that conversation is HARD. 😩
Especially when the client says NO. 😕
