Start your Labor Day weekend off with some hard work and skill development! Because every athlete dreams of waking up early on a Saturday morning to work on their baseball skill, and crush a hard workout !!
I’m kidding
The flyer may be ugly and your athlete probably will not want to come get a workout in on Labor Day weekend but I’ll be there to push the ones that do!
Givem what they need so they can get what they want

I have had a few conversations over the last few weeks about weight controll- most of the athletes I work with are focused on gaining weight but I have also had several parents and friends talk about tips to lose weight or to “tone up”
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself and get in better shape physically, even if you just want to look better in the mirror. It is not vain of you to want to look good, it is self respecting and will build your confidence !
The main motivator for a few parents of the athletes I work with is to be a solid example for their kids. They want to push their athlete to train and be healthy, but it’s hard to do that if you don’t have it locked down yourself
I am NOT a dietitian or nutritionist but I do have considerable knowledge on the topic from professionals I know in that community and here is the simple formula-
If you are in a caloric SURPLUS, you will GAIN
If you are in a caloric DEFICIT, you will LOSE
There are several ways to adjust these numbers-
Eat less + steady state cardio = lose weight stay fit
Eat more + lift more = muscle mass surplus
Eat less + lift more = lean muscle tone
Eat more + workout less = increase in body fat
Eat less + lift less = lose muscle mass
It is most likely not your thyroid, not a unique metabolism , and not some bodily medical mystery that is keeping you from what you want. The truth is, none of us are really that special
It’s a simple manipulation of the caloric intake and the caloric output that will determine your body comp. Figure out your numbers, figure out a routine, stay disciplined. Easy as that !

Baseball players, hear this long but important message from your strength coach 🎤
This is the vicious cycle that keeps you trapped at the same level year after year👇
You end your spring and summer season feeling beat down, weaker, slower, and see the number on the scale drop 10+ lbs
If you are an athlete that takes their sport seriously, this will motivate you to work your tail off in the fall on your training
As you train, you will see growth, you will get stronger, you will get faster, the number on the scale goes back up and you will feel the best you have ever felt if you are training the correct way
But….
EVERY YEAR for the past 5 years I have seen athletes reach the top of their game during their off season training, just to WASTE it all when the spring season starts because you stop working in the weightroom
By the 2nd month of the season you have lost your gains
By the 3rd month you are back to wear you where before the off season with less pop off the bat, less velo on the mound, and less speed and stamina which hurts your performance
Then as the season ends your frustration leads you to get motivated to train again and the cycle continues
Here are the most popular excuses I hear-
- I don’t have enough time in season
- I have a busy and irregular schedule so it’s hard to stay consistent
- I have a hard time managing school work and baseball
-I don’t want to be sore on game day
-I don’t want to get to bulky in season because I’ll tighten up
Getting to the next level is not for everyone, but after training so many athletes that HAVE made it to a college career or further I’ll let you in on a few secrets-
-The guys who make it to the next level put down the PS5 controller and find the time to keep training
-The guys who make it to the next level prioritize training or find people to help them prioritize it so that no matter how busy their schedule gets they get their work in
-The guys that make it get their school work done, get their practice done, and get their training done because that is what you HAVE to do in college anyways
-The guys that make it stretch, recover properly, and get their hydration and nutrition right so that they can lift and NOT let soreness effect their game play. You know why you get to sore to be effective on game day? Because you only lift 1 time ever 5 days and your body never adapts
- you will not get “bulky”. You will put on muscle that directly effects your performance, or you will lose muscle through the season and perform worse
Everyone has heard the stat that only 3% of high school players get to play at any level of college baseball and less than 1% beyond that
This is why. Because only 3% out the excuses aside and find a way to get unstuck
