During a Thai massage session, your therapist will stretch your body into a variety of positions that most closely resemble yoga positions. Through this stretching, you'll relieve muscle tension, increase muscle flexibility, add to your muscle tone, and help aid joint mobility.

Thai massage is an ancient healing art of Thailand using acupressure on the SEN or the energy lines, deep tissue contact, combined with yoga-like stretching. Thai massage is similar to sport massage and neuromuscular therapy. These types of massage are designed to deal with chronic pain from tension, injury or repetitive use of the muscles.

Wai Khru mantra before starting a massage session, simply take a moment to clear your mind, set an intention and thank the lineage of teachers that has kept this practice alive for centuries.
Whatever your spiritual beliefs, there is benefit to both you and your client when the massage is performed in a meditative fashion. Taking a moment to prepare yourself both physically and mentally prior to beginning a massage will ensure that you will be better able to listen to what your client’s body is telling you and to leave your own personal life and wandering thoughts out of the massage session.

General contraindications for Thai massage are the same as with any other massage technique. A massage therapist does need to take extra care in assessing any issues a client may have with range of motion, as these may contraindicate Thai massage.
Modifications can often be made, but massage therapists should ask about the following during intake (this list is not exhaustive):

history of dislocated shoulder

joint replacement

impingement syndrome

arthritis

bursitis

frozen shoulder

herniated disc
