And just like everything else we recommend, this isn’t a treatment we think everyone needs simply because it’s our pick for the month. We want to know what you’ve been noticing first. We hear this one all the time: “I think I need to let my nails breathe.”

Here’s the funny thing…your nails don’t actually breathe.

That doesn’t mean taking a break is never helpful. If your nails have been picked, peeled, over-filed, or repeatedly put through services that aren’t working well for them, giving them some time and adjusting your nail routine may be exactly what they need.
But simply removing your polish so oxygen can “get to the nail” isn’t really what’s helping.

Healthy nails have a lot more to do with good application, safe removal, appropriate maintenance, cuticle care, and paying attention when something doesn’t look or feel right.

You’ve probably heard that you’re supposed to show up to a color appointment with dirty hair…but do you actually need to?

Not necessarily.

A little natural oil usually isn’t a big deal, but several days of dry shampoo, root cover-up, sweat, or styling products can leave quite a bit sitting on the hair and scalp. Depending on what we’re doing that day, that buildup can make our job a little harder.

For most color appointments, clean, dry hair is a pretty great place to start. You don’t need to aggressively scrub your scalp right before you come in, either.

And because there are always exceptions, if you’re ever wondering how we’d like you to prep for your appointment, just ask us. We’d much rather answer the question than have you guessing at home.
