After a massage session, gentle movement is key.

Your horse may feel a little sore or relaxed afterward, just like we do after bodywork! Light turnout or hand walking helps keep their circulation flowing and supports continued healing. Avoid hard or intense work right away; let them ease back into movement with freedom and time.

Summer riding is the best, but it calls for a few adjustments in your care routine:

Hydration is key. Add 1–2 tablespoons of plain white salt to your horse’s feed daily to support water intake.

Grazing changes—more pasture may mean adjusting feed or calorie intake.

Watch for heat stress—shade, airflow, and plenty of clean water are a must.

A few small changes can go a long way in keeping your horse comfortable and performing well during the summer months.

The more I’ve learned, the more I understand that most horses don’t act out of malice. There’s usually something going on beneath the surface. Discomfort, confusion, or pain can all lead to behaviors we label as “bad.”

I started Gracefully Strong to help horses feel their best and move beyond the hurdles they’re facing — physically or emotionally. There’s a beautiful balance between structure and softness, and I love helping horses find confidence and comfort in their bodies again.

Signs Your Horse May Benefit from Bodywork

Is your horse dropping a shoulder, resisting cues, or just not moving like themselves? Maybe you’ve tried training adjustments, new tack, or other tools and nothing seems to be working.

Some signs your horse may need bodywork include:
- Pinning ears when saddling
- Resistance to being caught
- Changes in posture or muscle tone
- Soreness in the back
- Overall irritability or avoidance

Even if you're unsure, I’m happy to take a look. Let’s help your horse feel and move better.

Bodywork vs. Veterinary Care – What’s the Difference?

Bodywork is an incredible complement to veterinary care, but it does not replace it.
Horses should be seen by a veterinarian at least once a year. If your horse is lame or showing signs of injury, they need to be evaluated and cleared by a vet before starting bodywork. Once cleared, bodywork can be a great way to enhance comfort, improve movement, and facilitate recovery.

We’re here to support the whole team working for your horse’s wellness, not to replace any part of it.

📌 What Is Equine Bodywork?

Equine bodywork involves the intentional manipulation of a horse’s muscles to help release tension. That tension can come from overwork, compensation patterns, poor movement, pain in another area, or even underdeveloped musculature. Bodywork helps break the pain-tension cycle and supports more comfortable, fluid movement. When done regularly, it can help your horse overcome training struggles and maintain a healthier, more sustainable way of moving, ultimately supporting a longer, more successful riding career.

Every session is guided by the horse and grounded in intention.

At Gracefully Strong, techniques, including soft tissue work, stretching, and gentle fascia release, support the horse’s natural ability to heal and rebalance.

We meet each horse where they are, with respect and quiet attention.

Sometimes you need to remove the kinesiology tape and it isn't all coming off yet. The trick is to roll, not pull.

A lot easier on the horse!

Thank you for the tip!

Equine massage is one of many tools in your wellness toolbox. It doesn’t replace your vet, farrier, or trainer—it complements them. Gentle bodywork can amplify the results of everything else you're doing.
