This morning's reading stopped me in my tracks.

I've been reading Childhood Disrupted, and one section perfectly explained something I've believed for years.

The book discusses research showing that it wasn't just stress itself that mattered.

It was our relationship with stress.

People who experienced high levels of stress and believed stress was harmful had poorer health outcomes.

But people who experienced the same amount of stress and understood their stress response differently had dramatically different outcomes.

That doesn't mean trauma doesn't affect us.

It doesn't mean we "just think positive."

It means something much deeper.

The meaning we continue to give our experiences matters.

That has been one of the biggest lessons in my own healing.

For years I thought healing meant understanding everything that happened to me.

What actually changed my life was changing my relationship with what happened.

Not pretending it was okay.

Not excusing it.

But refusing to let it define who I was becoming.

That's why I care so much about reframing.

Not because the facts change.

Because the meaning can.

And when the meaning changes...

So can your life.

This is one of the conversations we'll be diving into during UNMASKED, because maybe healing isn't about becoming someone new.
