Odin and Nessie❤️

THE GROUNDHOG YOU RELOCATED DID NOT SURVIVE.

You drove ten miles, opened the wire trap, and felt relieved watching the groundhog run into the distant woods.

We live-trap and relocate wildlife, assuming it is a harmless, humane solution to protect our spring gardens.

In reality, native Groundhogs (Marmota monax, Status: Secure) face staggering 50-70% mortality rates when dumped in unfamiliar territory without an established burrow or known escape routes. Right now in April, mothers are actively nursing helpless, blind pups deep underground. When a mother is trapped and moved, she cannot return. Her dependent litter is left behind to suffer a 100% mortality rate from starvation.

These burrowing herbivores are vital, interconnected soil engineers. Their extensive tunnel systems aerate the earth and provide critical survival shelters for native foxes, amphibians, and wild bees, sustaining the local ecosystem.

You can easily coexist. If a groundhog is under your shed this spring, simply wait. The pups will naturally emerge and disperse in a few weeks. Protect your plants with simple exclusion fencing instead of trapping.

You felt humane driving away. But her pups called for her in the dark for five days before they finally stopped.

This is for all wildlife. Please be kind.
