At R&R Skin and Aesthetics, one of the lasers we use frequently for melanin rich skin is the Aerolase Neo Elite, a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser.

That 1064 nm wavelength is important because it is less attracted to melanin near the surface of the skin than many shorter wavelengths. This allows the energy to travel deeper while reducing unnecessary heat at the surface.

Aerolase also delivers its energy in a very short 650 microsecond pulse. In simple terms, the energy is delivered quickly, which helps limit how much heat spreads into the surrounding skin.

But the laser itself is only part of the equation.
