Your Wedding Day. Say no to DIY.
I know there are a lot of wedding DIYers out there, and I respect them. Invitations, centerpieces, photo props, etc., so cute! However, pretty please really consider if you want to do extend the spirit of DIY into your own makeup on your wedding day. Here is why you should hire a professional makeup artist for your wedding day….
Photography and Makeup.
While you may be saying to yourself, “I do my own makeup all the time. I want to do my own for my wedding, and then I know I will look like I normally do”, you don’t know how your everyday makeup will look in photographs in different types of light. Some makeups can photograph very shiny and make you look oily or sweaty. Other types of makeup can also make you look extremely pale when your photographer uses any sort of flash, like in Churches or large reception halls. It is best to work with a professional makeup artist who can use products that won’t result in looking like you just did some cardio or saw a ghost. This is no ordinary day – it’s your wedding day! Everyday makeup just doesn’t cut it for this extraordinary occasion. Expect to wear about 25% more makeup than you would normally to look absolutely flawless in photographs. This additional makeup added to the right places works to generate a look that photographs better-than-natural. These pictures are going to be looking back at you for the rest of your life and with HD photography the stakes are definitely higher.
Photoshop – not the answer to flawless skin
“Oh, you can just Photoshop that out, right?” No. While it may seem like a valid option to deal with a scar, bad tan lines, or a skin condition like rosacea, Photoshop is not the right tool. Yes, a good photographer can retouch an image for you, but most often retouching will not be included in your photography package or perhaps only on a select number of images. If you have a photographer who is willing to individually touch up hundreds of pictures they are either extremely generous or very, very expensive. It’s also difficult to make it realistic looking. The better option would be to work with your makeup artist and find a way to cover up anything going on with your skin so that you look the same. Professional corrective cosmetics ranging from heavy duty concealers to air brush makeup for face or body are by far the best way to handle any insecurities or features that you are self-conscious about and provide a flawless, consistent finish. I recommend visiting the dermatologist for a great skin care regimen for a ready to go canvas.
Stress
You have plenty of other things to do on your wedding day. Do you really want to have to worry about doing your own makeup? Just sit back, relax, and let someone else do the work!
I’ve always found it odd that some brides are willing to pay thousands for the perfect photographer, but yet haven’t considered hiring a makeup artist to ensure those pictures come out a s good as possible. The one thing you will have forever are your pictures and you want to look your absolute best!

So It's almost prom time !!!! I get it–prom preparations are not cheap. But DIY prom makeup can totally help cut costs.
After buying your dress, getting your hair done, don't forget the nails........ sometimes coming up with even more cash to get your makeup done just doesn’t seem worth it. You may be thinking: “Why am I going to spend all this money just to have it on for a few hours?” Or maybe you’re nervous you’re makeup will end up looking like a disaster, even though it’s been done by a pro (which has been known to happen).
But getting your makeup just right can seem quite overwhelming. There are so many things to take into consideration: the color of your dress, your skin type, the weather, what products to use, etc. On the other hand, the greatest benefit is that you’ll be able to experiment with different products and colors and practice before the big night—so everything will go smoothly for the main event.
Here are some tips on how to do your makeup like a pro - you got this girl!
1. Prime if you need to
You want your makeup to look flawless all night, so prepping the skin correctly is essential. In this case, you’re going to need to know your skin type really well. Do you tend to get shiny throughout the day? If so, you should use a mattifying primer, like Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer ,which will keep oil at bay and refine larger pores. On the other hand, if your skin gets dry and flaky you can skip primer, but make sure you moisturize well before applying foundation.
2. Use a photo friendly foundation
You’re going to be taking photos all night, so you want your skin to be picture perfect. There are foundations out there that are specifically made to look fantastic in photos, like Makeup Forever’s HD Foundation.
3. Match your foundation to your chest and blend it down your neck
Many times, our faces can be either lighter or darker than our bodies. By matching your foundation to your chest and blending it down your neck, you are ensuring that everything is one, uniform color.
4. Be wary of HD powder
Tons of brands now make finely-milled, loose silica powder, which is often marketed as “HD powder.” While these products are meant to give a “soft focus” effect to the skin, when used incorrectly, the results can be pretty scary. Ever see pictures of celebrities on the red carpet where it looks like they dunked their faces in baby powder? That’s the result of poorly applied HD powder. Silica powders dissolve when they come in contact with moisture, which gives a beautiful finish to the skin. When they encounter dry patches, however, they cling to them and create that ghostly, white cast you see so often in flash photography.
5. Contour, but don’t go crazy.
This i my #1 pet peeve!! I see it all the time.
You probably always see your favorite Instagram or YouTube celeb practically paint their face with concealer to “contour and highlight.” But think about this: when is the last time you saw someone on the cover of a magazine or in a movie like that? Probably never. And that’s because real makeup artists don’t contour like they’re putting on war paint. Contouring should subtly sculpt the face, and when done correctly, it will look beautiful in pictures.
You’ve probably heard a million times that you can contour with bronzer–don’t do it. You should be using a cool toned shade, i like NYX’s Blush in Taupe, which will mimic a natural shadow. Your cheek contour should begin above your ear and end just where your eye starts to create the most natural shape.
6. Go a bit heavier-handed with your blush
Flash photography washes everything out, that’s why it’s okay to go a bit heavier with your blush. But don’t go too crazy, you don’t want to look like a clown. Try adding just a touch more than you normally would to your apples–and don’t forget to blend everything well.
7. Fill in your brows
If there’s one occasion you should be filling in your brows, it’s prom night. Your eyebrows frame your face and pull your entire makeup look together, that’s why making them polished and defined is crucial. Use a light hand and fill in any sparse areas with a brow powder instead of a pencil (The waxy formula tends to catch light and flash back in photos). Don't forget to brush it out!
8. Prime your eyes
An eyeshadow primer will ensure that your eyeshadow won’t crease and slide all over while you’re dancing the night away. Plus, shadows will apply smoother and more vibrantly. My favorite - Too Faced Shadow Insurance 24+ Hour Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer.
9. Choose a color palette that complements your dress
You want your whole look to be cohesive. If you want to play it safe, stick to the same undertones of your dress when choosing the color palette of your makeup (so pair a warm toned dress with warm tones in your makeup, etc.). But if you’re feeling a little more daring, don’t feel like you need to match your makeup to the color of your dress exactly. Try playing around with complementary colors. For example, a blue dress can look awesome with a pop of orange lipstick, a purple dress will look stunning with smoldering, golden eyes. And if all else fails, you can never go wrong with a classic, black smokey eye.
10. Define your lower lash line
Shadow underneath the eye can be a scary thing—a bit too much and you can end up looking like you have a black eye. However, when done correctly, it actually opens up the eye and prevents your eyeshadow look from being too top-heavy. Use a small brush to sweep color very close to the lash line. If you have small eyes, leave the inner third blank, to create the illusion of bigger eyes. Make sure you’re blending everything out so there are no harsh lines. If you really want that extra pop, skip black and line your waterline with a n**e pencil.
11. Don’t feel like you need to wear false lashes
Sure, false lashes can really give your eyes that extra edge, but it’s your night and you need to do what feels comfortable to you. If you have a hard time applying them, or just find them uncomfortable, don’t wear them! You can give your eyes definition with multiple layers of mascara, without having to worry about lash glue and pesky corners lifting up all night.
12. Line and fill in your lips with lip liner
No matter the lip color, you want it to last. By lining and filling in your lips with a lip pencil, you’re not only defining them, you’re also creating a base that will make everything last longer and preventing your lip color from bleeding.
13. Choose your lip color carefully
There are no rules as to what lip color you should wear on your prom night. It’s important to keep in mind, however, how high maintenance the color will be. If you’re going for a n**e, you can quickly swipe on a gloss or a lipstick and go. If you’re going for a more bold color, however, like a red or a hot pink, you’re going to have to deal with the upkeep all night. Decide if reapplying and making sure your lip color doesn’t smudge or get on your teeth is something you want to worry about all evening. - Here's where those lipsticks form LIPSENSE would def work great!
14. Use a setting spray
Setting sprays are a beautiful thing. A few spritzes of this wonder-product on top of a setting powder (We love Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray) and your makeup will be locked into place—no need to worry about sweating your makeup off on the dance floor.
15. Bring products to touch up
Unfortunately, makeup can’t stay looking as perfect as it did when you first applied it. That’s why it’s important to bring a few products to touch up throughout the night. We recommend carrying just the essentials, like concealer, powder, blotting sheets and your lip color.
I hope these little tips help, feel free to contact me if you run into any questions. Or contact me if you just have given up and would like me to do your prom makeup ! lol I have faith in you girls!

In light of Valentine's day, (my absolute favorite hoilday) Please enjoy this super awesome homemade chocolate face mask!
Chocolate is a great mood booster. Its scent and ingredients elevate levels of serotonin – a natural antidepressant. Chocolate produces endorphins in the brain that create feelings of happiness which help reduce stress. Even the smell of chocolate can have a calming effect. – who knew!
Cocoa powder is a wonderful and powerful antioxidant. It protects and frees the skin from free radicals, that cause significant damage to skin layers. Research shows flavonoids in dark chocolate absorb UV light, help protect and increase blood flow to the skin, and improve skin’s hydration and complexion.
Oatmeal is gentle on the skin, yet highly powerful. Not only is it a gentile exfoliant for removing dead skin, it can also provide soothing relief from sunburn, poison ivy or other irritations. Oatmeal is also said to heal skin and open pores. It’s been used to promote healthy, beautiful skin for a long time.
Honey is a great anti-bacterial agent, deeply cleanses your skin, and opens up clogged pores.
Cream adds moisture to your skin. Hydrates your skin and softens delaying the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Now that you know all these benefits a chocolate facial, you can make your own chocolate face mask recipe and aid to your skins youthful look and nourishment.

It's here. Superbowl Weekend. So many Superbowl parties to attend, right? Mine includes sitting at home with my kids, laughing at commercials, and eating buffalo chicken dip.. but some of you might party a little harder ? If that's the case, I have some after party tips for your skin! LIke all good things, parties have come to an end. And even as you go about getting back to "normal" life, there are some simple things you must do to take care of your skin and restore it back to full health...and get ready for the next one! Quick, simple and easy ways to insure healthy, radiant skin even as you party away!
#1: Cleanse - quickly, and thoroughly
Yeah, I know. The only thing you want to do after returning from a party is to fling your shoes away and crash on the nearest flat surface. But hey, wait. Sweat, grime, makeup and smoke (second-hand, too) are a dangerous mix to leave on your face, especially while you are asleep. As quickly after the party as possible, use a makeup remover to get away the makeup and grime first, and then use a gentle face wash to lather away any remaining impurities. And if required (and you have the patience), slather on your favorite day or night cream. And then sleep easy. Your face is going to thank you for it!
#2: Hydrate your body & skin
Alcohol (if you drink), salty foods, sugary drinks - standard fare at any party? Each of these has a dehydrating effect on your body and skin. Too little water will end up making your skin look shriveled and lifeless. That typical day-after-the-party dryness we feel on our face is exactly this. For several days after a party, and in general, drink lots and lots of water, and keep your skin moisturized from the outside, too. Good hydration is the starting point for better-looking skin.
#3: Anti-oxidise!
Free radicals abound in the party atmosphere - of the molecular variety, I mean. Simply put, free radicals are the #1 cause of oxidation, which in turn causes ageing, dark spots and other problems. Pile up on antioxidants in your food and skin care regime. Nuts, berries, bright-colored fruits and vegetables - these are some excellent sources of antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals and keep you protected. You should include antioxidants in your food, as well as in your skin care regime! Catch our post on antioxidants to get to know these wonder molecules better.
#4: Sleep
Late-nights are cool, sort of. Bags under your eyes when you're too young for them - not cool. The body does have a mechanism to adjust sleep deprivation for short periods of time, but not for too long. Don't carry forward your sleep deficit beyond 4-5 days. Make sure you rest body and mind and give them a chance to jump back to their natural cycles. Sleep deprivation affects not only the skin but also the body in many, many ways - so making up for lost sleep is an absolute no-brainer on this list.
.
So there we go - some after-party tricks to keep you in good shape for the next one :) Have fun, be good!

HAPPY NEW YEAR CATS & KITTENS. SO WHAT IS YOUR 2017 NEW YEARS RESOLUTION?? ...FOR YOUR SKIN THAT IS....
HERE ARE SOME GOOD RESOLUTIONS THAT YOUR SKIN WILL THANK YOU FOR ALL YEAR LONG.
Moisturize After Showering
(Keep body lotion right in the shower. Seeing it will remind you to apply it when your skin is damp, within ten minutes of turning off the water. "If you wait, skin starts losing water v***r)
Wear Sunscreen Every Day
(Look for "nongreasy" or "sheer" on the label - AT LEAST 30SPF)
Take Off Your Makeup at Night
(Cosmetics can also trap skin-damaging free radicals that float in the air (think: bus exhaust) against your skin) Worst case scenario keep those removing wipes by your bed.
Clean Up After the Gym
(When you don't cleanse directly after a workout - you will get acne and bacne!)
Book a Yearly Mole Check
(Having a dermatologist survey your body once a year is crucial)
Exfoliate Regularly
(By age 30, an adult takes a full 28 days to replenish skin cells - With all that extra time, skin cells have a chance to dry out and lose luster—unless you jump-start the renewal process by exfoliating. )
Have Mercy on Your Hands
(To keep both nails and hands from dehydrating, forgo plain antibacterial gels and instead choose moisturizing versions, like Purell With Lubriderm) Keep SPF hand cream throughout your house.
Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Makeup and skin oils build up, creating a breeding ground for bacteria that can cause irritation. Wash your tools monthly with a liquid hand soap or baby shampoo and lukewarm water (hot water can cause bristles to fall out), then rinse well, squeeze out the excess water, reshape, and allow the brushes to dry thoroughly by balancing them over the sink. Weekly, spritz them with antibacterial .
Keep Your Hands Off Your Face
(Yes, it's tempting to squeeze a pimple, but just the act of touching your face with your fingers brings pore-clogging oil and dirt to the skin.)
Stick With the Program
Waiting for a new skin treatment to show results can be a test of patience, good anti-aging cream, acne treatment, etc. can take six weeks, so don't give up.

Last night after making a delish pumpkin cheesecake - I realized I had some leftover pumpkin. So I thought to myself, waste not want not and decided to put my leftover goodness to use! If you didn't already know, pumpkin has so many benefits. It’s not just for Halloween or yummy pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. This amazing fruit is full of goodness for your skin. Pumpkin contains enzymes that help to dissolve dry skin cells. It contains vitamin A, alpha and beta-carotenes, vitamins C, K, and E, and minerals, including magnesium, potassium, and iron. As you can see, it’s full of goodness. Pumpkin is great for acne skin. Pumpkins contain zinc. Zinc will help control the hormone level and oil production, as well as assist with healing of the skin. It combats inflammation, reduces pore size, controls excess oil and prevents the appearance of pimples, blackheads and blemishes. Pumpkin is perfect for damaged skin as well. It is full of Vitamin C and K which help fade sun spots and age spots. It is a potent antioxidant-you know, those little skin soldiers I talk about constantly that combat age accelerating free radicals! The molecular structure of pumpkin is small and can pe*****te deeper into the skin when used topically. It works amazingly well for treating a dull complexion, aging skin and pigmentation.
What better way to treat yourself after slaving over a Thanksging meal ! Here is the recipe for this amazingly beneficial face mask.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon cooked pumpkin,- or canned will work too!
1 teaspoon raw honey
optional: 1 teaspoon Vitamin E
**If you are acne prone or excessively oily, below is a better recipe for you**
1 tablespoon cooked pumpkin
1 teaspoon raw apple cider vinegar
Instructions
Mix and mash all ingredients together and apply to skin.
Leave on skin for 15 minutes.
Rinse with cool water and cleanser.
Yep, it’s orange! Don’t worry, it won’t dye your skin!
fun facts!:
Raw Honey is crazy good for your skin! Honey is naturally antibacterial. It works well for people suffering with acne. Honey, like pumpkin is full of antioxidants! It is very moisturizing and great for sensitive skin. Honey actually opens the pores and helps clean the dirt out!
Vitamin E is very nourishing and moisturizing to your skin. It repairs and renews damaged skin. It also can increase circulation!
