Berkshire Museum announces nostalgia-themed return of its beloved Festival of Trees The Berkshire Museum is seeking participants for the Festival of Trees, which returns after a two-year hiatus, running Nov. 18 through Jan. 7.

When Calder completed his monumental mobile .125 for the new International Arrivals Building of Idlewild Airport (now John F. Kennedy International Airport - JFK), it went directly into storage. “It was properly wrapped because it was to be stored in an old wooden shed on the outskirts of the airport, a building dating from World War I. I rode down with the truck and was present as it was stored away,” the artist recounts in his autobiography. “I don’t know the reason for the delay—perhaps the building was not ready to receive it—but I finally urged them to put it up.” The 45-foot-wide mobile, titled after the gauge of its aluminum elements, was the largest Calder had made to that point. This photograph captures the long-awaited moment in which Calder sees .125 installed in situ for the first time, five months after its completion.
