from the moment water hit these, I could tell they were of a different caliber.

my installation of Cari k-tips was just a p o r t i o n of this guest’s installation- MJ began with installing a single, gorgeous weft in the back of her head, allowing me to density match in the sides, where she had previously worn tape-in extensions.

in my opinion, this is the perfect “r e a l life” example of the power of extensions- not over-installed, not overwhelming, not too long, not too thick, not unrealistic in color.

while platinum 24” extensions are impressive in their own right, I personally find installations like these to be far more impressive.

designed for every day wear, this guest can wear her hair up for hot yoga comfortably, without concern of her extensions being detectable.

In my chair, there are so many deeper discussions, and intricate installations.

Sometimes, you’ll meet guests who for them, extensions are vital to their every day.

These installations aren’t for everyone- guests, and stylists included.

Safety, patience, and accuracy is of the utmost importance for the stylist, where patience, trust, flexibility, and willingness is needed by the guest, in order for the stylist to move forward.

Many times, I’ve been able to offer an “imperfect solution.” These are what I call “complex canvas” installations- less than ideal, but with an open mind, often possible.

These installations are a journey - imperfect with the first install, and often even the second; but as we get into the third, fourth, and beyond- the goal is that as their natural hair grows, it falls at a more appropriate length for installations, and aids in blend factor, density matching, retention, etc.

This guest’s goal was simply to have more styling options than she previously had, while being able to disguise the fact that extensions were the main composition of her length, density, and color, while she transitions into a new professional role.

Beyond visual impact, we hope that these extensions act as an “alarm” with her ongoing experience living with Trichotillomania. With the investment both financially, and sitting for many hours of service, we hope that her triggers to pull will shift, and manifest elsewhere. 🤍

For this installation, we had installed roughly 75 grams of micro bond k-tip extensions.

This guest will return in 8 weeks for a full:
-removal service
-natural hair base retouch
-installation of a fresh 75+ gram set of 16” k-tip extensions

With each installation, we’ll closely monitor:
-natural hair shed / level of retention
-any tension / safety concerns
-level of pulling / twisting / picking / manipulating
-ability to install more grams for more coverage
-successes / struggles with their routines
