For this crochet style, I braided her hair with added extensions and placed a protective net over the braids. The net gives me a surface to crochet onto instead of directly crocheting onto her natural hair—adding an extra layer of protection.
Because this is MORE than an appointment. 💜

Meet my second-born grandchild, Princess Zora! 👑💜 She’s been getting her hair done since she was about 2 years old, but she’s always been a little more sensitive—and that’s okay!
One thing her parents and I have taught her is to USE HER VOICE. If something hurts, say it! If it doesn’t feel good, communicate it. 💜
As a stylist, working with sensitive clients takes patience, communication, proper technique, gentle detangling, sectioning, controlled tension, and sometimes simply slowing down. Everyone has a different pain tolerance, and what feels fine to one person may be uncomfortable for another.
And Zora will definitely let her Nana know:
“Nana, can you please be a little more gentle?” 😂👑
And you know what? I listen. Because healthy hair care should never require someone to suffer just to be beautiful.

👑 STARTING A CHILD’S LOC JOURNEY? SIZE MATTERS!
This is my first-born grandson out of 8 grandchildren! 💜 His loc journey started at just 5 years old, and now he’s 8! Watching his journey grow has taught me just how important it is to think LONG-TERM when starting locs on children.
The child’s age, hair density, lifestyle, activity level, eating habits, and the size and foundation of the locs all matter. Kids grow—and their hair grows with them! What looks appropriate at 5 can make a BIG difference as they get older.
His parents and I work together to keep his locs healthy, maintained, and thriving. They follow the same routine I do, and I only use my Royal Artess Creations products on his hair. He’s also vegan, so nutrition is another part of the conversation when we talk about healthy hair growth.
And when they say “it takes a village”… IT REALLY DOES! 👑💜 His parents stay consistent at home, and I do my part as his stylist. That teamwork helps keep his crown healthy every step of the way.
Starting a child’s loc journey is more than a hairstyle—it’s a long-term commitment.

SAME FAMILY, DIFFERENT HAIR TEXTURE! 👀👑
If you know me, you know my grandbabies! 💜 This is Abel’s big brother Kane, who just turned 3 and sits just as good in Nana’s chair! 😂
Kane got the same stitch braids as his brother, but look at the difference in their hair! Kane’s texture is a little looser/straighter, while Abel’s curls are a little tighter. That’s genetics and the beautiful mix of cultures showing up in their crowns. 👑
Even siblings can have completely different curl patterns, density, and strand textures—which is why every head of hair should be treated individually.
And personality? 😂 Abel walks right in ready to entertain. Kane has to check Nana’s clients out first!

👑 HE’S NOT EVEN 2 & ALREADY KNOWS THE ROUTINE!
My grandson will be two in October, and he has NO problem sitting in Nana’s chair for his shampoo and braids! 😂💜 He’ll even come asking, “Nana, can you do my hair?” 🥹
If you know me, then you know all my grandbabies—especially Kaine & Abel! 😂 They don’t mind entertaining my clients one bit! They’re seasoned salon babies—they know the process, know what to expect, and don’t mind getting their own crowns done. 👑

My Aly Poo! 🥹💜She moved over two hours away and still makes sure she supports me. She sends me scriptures, checks on me, and sometimes stops by just because she was in the area visiting her mom. That kind of love and loyalty means EVERYTHING. 🫶🏽
When she had an emergency after a bad hair experience, she knew exactly who to call. 💜 I gave her a traditional sew-in with NO leave-out to give her hair the protection and break it needed.

Mom was a little worried because this was his first time getting two-strand twists, and with college right around the corner, they wanted something fresh for his new beginning. The biggest concern? “Does he even have enough hair?” 💪🏾
Well… he had about 3–5 inches throughout, and that was MORE than enough to create a clean, defined two-strand twist style. 🙌🏽
This is why understanding your hair length, density, texture, and what your hair can actually do matters. Sometimes you’re underestimating your hair because you’re looking at it from one perspective — but a trained stylist knows how to work with what you have.
