My little friend Anakin came to see me today. It was his 1st birthday a few weeks ago so La La had some presents for him.

Causes of Pigmentation – Sun Induced

Sun induced pigmentation is the #1 cause of hyperpigmentation. This is a result of UV exposure triggering an increase in the production of tyrosinase leading to an increase in melanin production. Today we will discuss 2 theories that are related to sun induced pigmentation. Theory 1 are Solar Lentigines which are UV induced mutations to melanocytes. These are commonly referred to as “age spots” by the consumer. Theory 2 is that due to repeated UV exposure the melanosomes act as an umbrella shielding the nucleus of the cell from further damage from UV rays, in an attempt to protect the dermal-epidermal junction.

Sun protection is the #1 way to help protect the skin against damage caused by UV exposure. For those of us who were not good about sun protection there are some excellent ingredients found within the Rhonda Allison line which help block the act of tyrosinase including our Daisy Flower Extract, L-Ascorbic Acid, Alpha Arbutin, Kojic Acid and Azelaic Acid.
