In hair school, we’re all taught the golden rule: never skip a thorough consultation—every single time a client sits in your chair.
It doesn’t matter if they’ve been with you for years or come in every few weeks… it’s still a must.

But let’s be honest—most of us get comfortable with our regulars and start to skip a few questions here and there.
Well, tonight I got a not-so-gentle reminder of why those consultations matter so much.

I failed my client (and myself) by not asking what might have changed since her last visit—diet, supplements, medications… all those little things that can completely change how hair reacts to color.

When her usual formula didn’t turn out the way it always does, I went into full detective mode—double-checking everything I did. Same formula, same process, same timing. What on earth happened?!

Then it hit me… after her color was already applied, she casually mentioned she’d started a new fitness program and added a ton of supplements.

Even if I’d known beforehand, I probably couldn’t have predicted the exact result—but it definitely would’ve saved me a whole lot of stress and confusion!

Moral of the story?
👉 Everything we put into our bodies shows up in our hair.
👉 Never skip the consultation—even with your most loyal clients.
