The beauty industry is unique in that you get to know people on a deep level. In some cases, you see your clients more regularly than they see some of their own family or friends. When a client tells you they are terminally ill, you know that relationship will someday come to an end - but I don’t think you’re ever truly ready for it.

Today, I learned that one of my lovely clients passed away after an unexpected, rapid decline in her health.

Although she seemed at peace with her diagnosis and often spoke about it without fear, I know it made her sad because she loved her husband, children and grandchildren so deeply. At her last appointment, she told me she had officially retired and was SO excited to spend the summer not working. We laughed together at every appointment, and I was hoping for many more appointments with her.

In fact, she was supposed to come in tomorrow at 11:00 am for a manicure and pedicure, which tells you just how unexpected this feels.

She loved sparkly dark blue polish on her toes and mauve on her fingernails. I’m sharing a picture of this mauve carnation because it’s color is so unique and beautiful - it reminded me of her immediately.

Rest in peace, Jeanne. Thank you for the conversations, the laughter, and the privilege of being a small part of your life. 🤍

Today marks exactly two months since my brother died by su***de, and I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for the support, love, compassion, and care you have shown me and my entire family.

Whether it was through prayers, coffee gift cards, flowers, DoorDash gift cards, financial donations to my sister-in-law, kind messages, or simply checking in, your generosity and thoughtfulness have meant more than I can express.

I am truly overwhelmed by how fortunate I am to have such a supportive community around me.

What I have always known - but what has been reinforced more deeply than ever over these past months - is that many of my clients have become so much more than clients. You are friends, and you have shown up for me in ways I will never forget.

The difficult season for my family began even before my brother’s death. About six weeks earlier, I had openly shared with many of you that my brother was experiencing a severe psychotic breakdown and that we were desperately trying to get him help. Despite all of our efforts, we were unable to get the intervention he needed. Throughout that time, and in the months since his passing, you have continued to support me with incredible kindness.

During these past two months, I have missed messages, forgotten to respond at times, mixed up appointments, and often felt completely overwhelmed by life. Yet every time, I have been met with grace, patience, compassion, and understanding.

For that, I am deeply grateful.

Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for caring about my family. Thank you for your friendship, your prayers, and your support during one of the most difficult seasons of my life.
