Melasma, also known as cholasma, is a condition in which brown discoloration or patches appear on the face. Melasma can be due to hormonal changes during pregnancy or from sun exposure and occurs more commonly in women.
Treatment options include:
•Hydroquinone, a topical lightening cream
•Tretinoin/Retin A
•Microdermabrasion treatments
One of the most important ways to prevent and treat melasma is by wearing SPF 30 or higher daily. Make sure your SPF contains either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
Under a dermatologist’s care, many patients with melasma have a positive outcome, however, it may take a few months of treatment to see improvement.

Dandruff, also known as seborrheic dermatitis, is a common chronic condition that causes yellowish, oily and scaly patches on the scalp, face or other body parts.
Dandruff, in adults, and cradle cap, in infants, are both forms of seborrheic dermatitis that tend to run in families. Known triggers include weather, oily skin, emotional stress and infrequent shampooing.
Ways to battle seborrheic dermatitis:
•Always wash hair in luke-warm to cool water, never hot. Hot water damages human skin, including the scalp.
•Never pick, scrape, or scrub flakes from the scalp, this does more harm than good. Hair can be gently combed.
•Try over the counter shampoos such as Head and Shoulders, Selsun Blue or Nizoral.
Sometimes despite these efforts, dandruff can be persistent. This is when you should contact your dermatologist to be evaluated for prescription treatment.

Winter skincare checklist:
✔️A mild, pH neutral soap such as Dove, Cetaphil, CeraVe, Aveeno or Oil of Olay.
✔️A non-comedogenic moisturizing cream. Apply while your skin is damp for optimal results.
✔️Aquaphor to keep lips from becoming chapped & to help heal dry, cracked skin.
✔️A good pair of gloves! It’s important to wear gloves any time you are outside in the winter to prevent eczema of the hands.
