The two sunscreen mistakes I see constantly as an esthetician ☀️
Using old SPF and not using enough — and both completely cancel out the money you spent!
Expired sunscreen breaks down 🫣and the filters stop working so it’s not protecting you the way you think it is.
And the amount is another big one.
Most people use less than half of what’s actually needed to hit the SPF on the label. that SPF 50 is closer to a 10 when you apply a light layer.
Two fingers worth for face and neck. every time. fresh bottle. I know I’m annoying.
Let me know your sunscreen questions in the DMs! I want to also address neurodivergence and sunscreen usage.
Sorry for the scraping sound in the background, but luckily it was the sound of the very sweet landscaper planting new plants outside! 🪴

This anti-self-care trend perfectly illustrates how yin-deficient our culture is, and how feminine rituals are seen as fatuous.
💆🏻♀️
In classical Chinese medicine, yin is the root — stillness, receptivity, moisture, nourishment, the dark and the cool. It is being, not doing. Yang without yin is just burning. And we are burning.
☯️
Yin deficiency isn’t just an individual diagnosis. It’s a cultural one. Western society is pathologically yang — obsessed with output, productivity, heat, speed, extraction. Rest is laziness (there is no such thing as laziness, and when I say that, boy do people get riled up). Receiving is seen as weakness. The feminine, in all its forms, is devalued or monetized or both. We have built entire systems on the suppression of yin qualities, and then we wonder why everyone is depleted, inflamed, running on empty.
🕊️
Anyway, that was a lot. But here we are, tending to the gentle call of yin magic. We need it ourselves, and we believe this work radiates to everyone we come into contact with.

As I get closer to 50, I am especially irritated by the game of trying to look younger. I totally buy into it, don’t get me wrong, but I’m trying to unlearn it. Maybe we can help each other.
I am weary of the idea that women are supposed to feel flattered when someone says they “don’t look their age”.
We look our age because it is our age.
That said… I can’t help but share that this radiant human is 57. No Botox, filters, just consistent, good products, regular facials and whatever else she is doing right.
Today we did a Biofacial + Laser, myofascial work, craniosacral therapy.
Working with clients over years is one of the greatest honors of this work. We do not take it for granted.
Thank you, Larissa 🤍
