6 Foods You Should Eat to Keep Your Teeth and Gums Happy
🌺🌺🌺🌺

A healthy diet is critical to a healthy mouth. And a healthy mouth is an important component in maintaining a beautiful smile. You can brush your teeth twice per day and floss regularly, but if you only eat candy and cookies, your teeth and gums will suffer for it. Therefore, to keep your teeth and gums in good condition and your smile looking great, we recommend making sure the following foods are included in your diet regularly.

1. Calcium-Rich Foods
You’ve probably heard that calcium is good for your bones. Your teeth are no exception to this rule! Calcium strengthens your tooth enamel and protects it from erosion and decay. Consider adding calcium-rich foods to your diet, such as dairy, seafood, tofu, and almonds.

2. Foods High in Phosphorous
Phosphorous is one of the building blocks for your dental enamel. When the bacteria in plaque releases acid onto your dental enamel, eating foods that are high in phosphorous helps to restore the minerals that have been lost. A few snacks that can help to remineralize your teeth include red meat, eggs, pumpkin seeds, tofu, and fish.

3. Fibrous Fruits and Vegetables
The reasons for eating fruits and vegetables that are crunchy and high in water content are two-fold. First, chewing these foods naturally scrubs the surface of your dental enamel, removing plaque and debris that can lead to tooth decay and gingivitis. Secondly, chewing on these foods increases your saliva production. Saliva is your body’s natural way of fighting off harmful bacteria that can lead to cavities. Therefore, be sure to snack on fibrous fruits and vegetables like celery, apples, and carrots.

4. Fruits and Nuts with Antioxidants
Antioxidants are critical in fighting bacteria that can lead to inflammation that would otherwise cause gum disease. To protect your gums from the harmful effects of periodontal disease, try foods that are high in antioxidants like grapes, apples, berries, and nuts.

5. Probiotics
Your mouth is full of millions of bacteria—both good and bad. Harmful bacteria can lead to gum disease and tooth decay, while healthy bacteria found in probiotics is thought to help fight decay and the bacteria found in plaque. Therefore, try eating yogurt or drinking kombucha to improve your oral health.

6. Foods with Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps to reduce inflammation and strengthen your blood vessels, defending you from the harmful effects of gum disease. Therefore, fruits like oranges, strawberries, and kiwi are an excellent addition to any diet. You should also consider adding vegetables like kale, broccoli, and bell peppers to your daily menu.
