Mother’s Day is May 10th~
Some of us had a mother who nurtured, protected, supported and loved us. Some of had someone else in our lives who mothered us- a teacher, a coach, a friend, an aunt…someone who helped us grow. Someone who loved us no matter what.
Perhaps, if no one else could, we learned how to support and love ourselves. And if not yet, perhaps in the days ahead, we will.
May all of us receive nurturing, mothering love. May all of us be capable of offering such love.
Perhaps together, we can fill our world with it.

I know I’m supposed to keep it really short- no one wants to read lots of stuff, I’m told. So, in that respect, I am a failure in this newsletter. There is so much I care about though, and so much that would be helpful for me to share (I get the same questions all the time in the treatment room), that I end up packing newsletters with (I think, I hope) an abundance of truly helpful information. So many things relate to one another (like the skin care tips in the blog) that it makes sense to put them all together. Not everything can be a short quip, it turns out. Read it in short bits, maybe. And take delicious snack breaks. Maybe reading this is an excuse to be still for a few minutes, if you'd like.

I didn’t think I’d be quoting the Catholic church but here we are…In a new text approved by Pope Leo, a top Vatican commission warned that medical cosmetic enhancements can lead to an unrealistic search for a perfect figure.
They write, “A curious situation arises: the ideal body is exalted ... while the real body is not truly loved, since it is a source of limits, fatigue, aging.”
To be clear, I am not against any cosmetic medical treatment. However, the Catholics (color me surprised they are even commenting on this) have a good point. Is admiration of medical physical enhancements connected to disgust and despair at our flawed, aging, natural faces and bodies?
I love this from Thich Nhat Hanh: "Be yourself. Life is precious as it is. All the elements for your happiness are already here. There is no need to run, strive, search, or struggle. Just be. There is nothing you need to become. There is nowhere you need to go. There is nothing you need to accomplish. There is nothing for you to realize…You are already what you wish to become."
I’d like to encourage radical love for our faces and bodies, just as they are…aging, changing, being.
Within this, there is SO MUCH we can do to keep our skin healthy and happy that is not surgery or medically invasive. This is always a good place to start, no matter if you opt for medical cosmetic treatments or not.

Jane Seymour recently turned 75.
I read an article where she was peppered with questions about her “beauty secrets” (I was genuinely interested! She has maintained her healthy looking skin for decades). She shows no obvious signs of major medical intervention (she maintains she has not had her face worked on, and looking at her pictures, this is believable).
This is what she said about her skin care routine: She’s a great believer in exfoliating and protecting her skin. She uses good moisturizing products daily, and she’s faithful to effective overnight retinol night creams. She’s also a great believer in eating well and hydrating. She eats good vegetables and fruits, and she falls back on a vitamin pack when she’s in a crunch. She also wears sun protection and hats and keeps herself out of the sun as much as she can. (She’s talked about how she likes to exercise daily, too, in past interviews.)
Voilà! She does all the boring, day-in-day-day-out routines that make a big difference as the years go by. (Its like she’s been reading my skin care blog!) Maintaining a good skin care routine (that includes something active like retinol), sun protection, eating good veggies and fruits, and good water intake all help in keeping our skin healthier. The end.
Thank you for embodying and validating what we know, Jane.

Yes, life is a lot (and sometimes too much?) but still, we have a whole New Year before us that we can start to sculpt, and, also, February love on the way. There are good things to look forward to, too.
Good things: Two new masques! Believe me when I say that they are great. All about them at the link, as well so much more good stuff…

Sweet December is here (and winter solstice is close). I always think of winter as a time to re-group, to gather what feels scattered, to rest.
Truly, winter is a superb time to nourish and fortify our skin.
If it’s been a minute since you’ve been in, you are warmly welcomed to have your skin receive some in-studio love.
And, there is a special just for you…
