I appreciate the diversity of my clientele and the personal bonds I have with each one of you. I support any protests, organizations, and those whom fight against racial injustices in our world.
As a person with white European origins, I recognize my privilege. I will continue to do the uncomfortable, messy personal work it takes to be a better white ally and help dismantle the white supremacist systems deeply ingrained in our society. Thank you for your voices, you are being heard.

Help Akemi Salon During Covid-19 organized by Jaime Jean 05/14/2020

Hello Friends!

Wanted to catch y’all up on all the news that we do know during these uncertain times. Unfortunately Multnomah County does not qualify to start the first phase of reopening this week so there is no plan of this happening soon. Also, it’s up for debate whether salons should be included in that first phase. This is unfortunate, and I’ve got some mixed feelings about this, but we will see what happens. We did just receive the safety guidelines that the Oregon Health Authority has laid out for salons. This is good so we can prepare to have everything we need to protect ourselves and all of you the best way we can. It is possible there will restrictions on how many people can be in the salon and with a small studio, I may have to work a day or 2 per week from an alternative location.

We shut our schedulicty books down in April because the uncertainty of a reopening date. In result of this most recent delay, I am cancelling all of my June and July appointments in order to allow my March-May cancelled clients have priority in the schedule once open. Please understand within our first month of opening, I will only be able to work certain hours which could make it difficult to get everyone in, and I may even suggest seeing one of my other colleagues if you cannot wait. I will reach out to each one of you currently on my books to explain your options. This will also include offering your custom color formulation by means of ā€œdrive-by root touch upā€ delivery to your car for a home color, offering instructions on trimming your own bangs, or using clippers with guards. Also, if you need to purchase any products, I can arrange a pick up from my home porch in NE Portland, 1 mile from Akemi. If you haven’t already reached out to me yet or have a current booking, but would like to be added to the wait list, text me.
Please be patient with me during this process while I do my best to navigate.

I have gotten plenty of prepayment offers for hair services and for that I am grateful, but not necessary. Fortunately my partner is still working and we’ve got a little savings that allows us a little cushion to get by for at least another month or 2. Although if you feel inclined and would like to know how you can help in any other way, Akemi Salon is in need. In order for our salon to survive this we still need to pay rent, triple net costs, and our utilities. Here is our GoFundMe.

Thank you to everyone whom have already donated!

I miss the salon atmosphere, my co-workers, having a routine, a set schedule, and most of all, I miss you all!
I am always available if you would like to chat so please call or text me anytime!

Sending so much love šŸ’•

Community love through Uncertainty

Hey folxs!
It’s official that we have been given an order by the state to close down shop. I’ve already rescheduled clients for the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, we might be anticipating this to go on longer, maybe till the end of April. I have closed my books down on Schedulicty for the entire month of April. For right now, if you would like to keep your April appointments on the books, I will reassess and contact you individually week by week until the moratorium is lifted. If your hair can wait and wouldn’t mind pushing your appointment out a little longer, I would suggest rescheduling now for a spot in May. https://www.schedulicity.com/scheduling/AXMVGD

Understand that the virus in itself isn’t the only fear, but the uncertainty of jobs and financial loss for the majority of us. I REALLY appreciate many of you that have offered to pay me for your appointments in advance. I’m very fortunate that I have a little emergency fund set aside for reasons such as this, so just for now, I’ll be ok. Thank you so much for all of the generosity you have been sending my way, it’s reason why I love doing what I do, and I am so grateful that I have you as part of my community!!

In the meantime, ive got plenty of time to see what creative tricks I can do to calm my uncertainty anxiety on my ā€œstaycationā€. I understand the more we abide to the new order and protect our community, *hopefully* the faster we may be able to get back to our normal lives...although let’s hope all of the sacrifices we are making in this this crisis will change our culture and healthcare for the better of our country. No matter who you are, we are all affected by this and we can get through this together.
Please take care of yourselves and your families, I love you all and can’t wait to see you on the flip side!
Sending you so much love,
~Chai

What You Need to Know About Temporary and Permanent Hair Loss 07/06/2015

I've been getting more and more women clients that have come in concerned about excessive hair loss. I also have been battling with the same issue and it very concerning. In my years of experience working with many some common causes are iron deficiency, crash diets, thyroid and adrenal problems. In any case it is important to have blood work done. This is a great article on the subject...

What You Need to Know About Temporary and Permanent Hair Loss Androgenic Alopecia, Alopecia Totalis and Alopecia Universalis, Cicatricial Alopecia, and Traction Alopecia are all different forms of hair loss.
