Last week Tim and I got to meet two members of Fugazi! 🖤🖤

Brendan and Joe are currently in a band called The Messthetics which kicked off their “Deface the Currency Tour” at in Portland, Oregon on April 17, 2026.

When I was growing up in the Midwest I went to a lot of Fugazi shows in Chicago and continued going to them when I moved to the East Coast to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art in August 1995. The 90’s were a wild and exciting time in my life as I was very much into the punk and rave scenes in Chicago, Baltimore, D.C. and New York.

On September 16, 1995 my friends ( ) and I drove to D.C. to see Fugazi play at the Sylvan Theater. We arrived so damn early that we caught their sound check and also got to sit on stage while they played which blew our fu***ng minds!

These are the pics I took that day but I recently found a Youtube video (see link below) of this entire Fugazi performance and you can spot me sitting on stage in front of the speakers! There was a photographer talking to me about his vintage polaroid camera and when I told him Joe Lally was my favorite bassist he took a B&W portrait of him and gave it to me. I met Joe for the first time after that show and he signed the back of that polaroid which I still have to this day.
