About 18% of Oregonians rely on SNAP and they lose access to benefits November 1st.
U.S. Census data shows Q***r households need food assistance at double the rate of other groups. More research suggests people of color who identify as LGBTQ2SIA+ have nearly three times the risk of poverty. At every $10 donation provides 30 meals. They are a partner agency to helping your donation go further. The majority of food programs are operated by religious groups who have judged and ostracized the Q***r Community for decades. Hand Up Project tears down barriers to create a safe, welcoming space for everyone to access healthy food staples. Hand Up Project is open to anyone who is hungry; however, they prioritize serving BIPOC and LGBTQ2SIA+ communities who experience disproportionately high rates of food insecurity. Oregon is a high cost state with an economy that relies heavily on service, retail, and tourism jobs, positions that often pay near minimum wage. That means thousands of families are technically employed but still below the federal poverty line. We have federal workers going unpaid.

It’s hot as hell out there. Be safe Portland. Don’t be a noodle head and drink your water. Multnomah county doesn’t have its cooling centers ready but remember the public library and big box stores if you need AC and don’t want to spend money.

We haven’t been on here so much this year but we thought today was an appropriate day to give you our Green Circle stats for 2024. In case you don’t know, we pay for a service that recycles all of our chemically contaminated foils, hair, gloves, left over color and single item & plastic waste that the regular recycling won’t take. That (and the associated chemicals) end up in the landfill. All we can do is our part and small things every day do count. We’d like to thank our clients for helping us make this happen. If you’re not a client, ask your stylist if their salon does this. It takes a bit of work to have 6 or 7 recycling bins, but if we can do it in 416sq’, chances are they can too. Our commitment to clean hair care hasn’t wavered. We only use small companies with the same ethos as us. Ask us about it. Most of us don’t have the luxury of getting into a rocket 🚀 to escape so let’s make the most of what we have right here. Earth is special and we are lucky.
Love you, Sweetheart💕

Rest in Peace LT James Earl Carter Jr, the only U.S. President to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy leaves a legacy of service to the end. As the 39th President of the United States, he emphasized human rights in foreign policy, environmentalism at a time it was barely mentioned and appointed record numbers of women and people of color during his administration.
For more than 35 years after the presidency, with Habitat for Humanity, the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project helped 4,390 families move into safe, affordable shelter in 14 countries. He worked on houses himself well into his 90s.
In 2002, Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize. He ended his acceptance speech with a plea for peace.
“War may sometimes be a necessary evil, but no matter how necessary, it is always evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children,” Carter said.
Happy holidays from all of us at Sweetheart. No matter what you celebrate, check out Santa Clones for a warm glow ❤️ There’s clues on his page of how to find them. The fun of watching someone come across them by accident is unmatched!
This year has felt tough for everyone and community is key in hard times. We are incredibly grateful to all our clients, everyone who has bought anything from us or wished us good thoughts. This time of year is a good time to slow down and reflect on what’s important to you. For us that’s family and chosen family, community and the reminder that until all are free and safe, none are truly free or safe. We don’t tolerate racism, misogyny, transphobia, sexism, homophobia in the salon because everyone is welcome here. Love you all. Thanks for making our days a little brighter 💕

Hi all, it’s the helter skelter that is the third quarter of the year again! Our clients celebrate a diversity of holidays but we’ve used these ones because we all know these dates. If you haven’t booked something and you’d like to before 2025, do so now! If you have booked something, and might have a change of plans, let us know ASAP. We have a 48 hour cancellation policy (we generally charge 100% of the spot you booked at that point). Even with 48 hours notice, if you cancel a 4 hour colour it’s really hard to find someone with a big chunk of available time to fill it. It takes a lot of time to text people on the waitlist and it’s really hard if we’re working on someone’s hair. It clogs up our books and makes it even harder to get in. Since Covid, we’re regularly booked out 3 months in advance. Help us help you: don’t book with multiple stylists because you’re not sure when you’re free; don’t book a colour and cut if you aren’t sure you need both; don’t wait until you need a bang trim to text; if you have a real tight turn around after an appointment, let us know before you come in for your service. This is art and it sometimes takes longer than expected. And as always, don’t come in if you’re sick. We have immune compromised stylists and clients, and we all know better nowadays. We love seeing you and we really hate disappointing people. But we’re overloaded humans doing the best we can, and we don’t have a receptionist. Priority is always going to go to existing clients at this time of year but it’s always worth a try at the waitlist (give us details of general availability and what you’d like to do). Love you all xo your sweethearts

Our own did some amazing hair that was in article and look how freakin cute it is!!! It can take a mess of help to make it look like you didn’t do much… Excuse us while we go dig out our denim & diamonds… 🤠
PS we like to make air dry waves at home with Hairstory Undressed, Cult + King Jelly or Reverie Mare. Ask us which one is right for your hair.

We’re not the best about posting but we’re always doing cute hair! Look at this cute little mod cut Nicola did ages ago on Annie. Razor cut to keep it soft and feminine, cleansed with New Wash and styled with Rake by Reverie.

One of our Sweethearts needs your help because cancer’s a bitch. Just over a month ago, Nicola was diagnosed with breast cancer and heads into a major surgery tomorrow morning. She’ll be out for 4-6 weeks and unfortunately Paid Leave Oregon hasn’t started paying out for self employed folks yet so she’s left without income and a family to support! Help out if you can with $ or good vibes or sharing this post. Link to Go Fund me in bio- they give everything (minus credit card processing fees) to Nicola and don’t feel obligated to tip them! 🩷🩷🩷
