💜 Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is simply breathe. 💜

Joanna texted me the other morning to cancel our plans. If you know Joanna personally—or you’ve been following Aromatic Garden for a while—you know that is not something she does easily.

She sent me this picture of herself (she’s was clearly crying) wearing a shirt she originally bought to support a friend. Today, she needed the reminder for herself:

“It’s okay if the only thing you did today is breathe.”

Honestly… I think she needed to hear that.

Joanna has walked through some heartache don’t people know. She’s buried children. She’s survived an unhealthy and abusive marriage. She’s raised a special-needs child as a single mom for a few years. Life has handed her plenty of reasons to have a mental breakdown but she hasn’t. Because If you know Joanna, you also know her as the person who walks into a room and somehow makes it brighter. The person who keeps pushing forward. The person who usually meets the hard days with a smile. 😊

Since the accident, things have been different.

She’s dealing with PTS and this combination of physical and mental exhaustion that has made some of the simplest things unexpectedly difficult.

The other day was one of those days.

While driving, it started hailing 🌧️ The constant pounding against the car 🚗 triggered something she couldn’t explain. She made it home safely, but once she did, she couldn’t function… she went right to bed 🛏️ —and couldn’t get back up. Her heart ❤️‍🩹was racing, and she couldn’t make sense of what was happening around her as her body physically was shaking out of control.

So when she canceled our plans, I knew she needed to and maybe that’s the message we all need sometimes:

You don’t have to accomplish something every day to make the day worthwhile.

💪🏼 Some days you conquer the world 🌎

But some days… you breathe… and that’s enough.

So if today is one of those days for you, give yourself permission to slow down. You aren’t failing. You aren’t falling behind.

Breathe. 🧘‍♀️ Rest. 🛏️ Tomorrow is another day. 💜
