Fades can be especially challenging when working with hair that has multiple colors or tones. The different shades can affect how seamlessly the fade appears, and sometimes the result may not look as perfectly blended as we would like.

But that’s okay—hair isn’t perfect, and neither is the canvas we work with. Every head of hair is unique, and part of the art of hairstyling is working with what we have to create the best possible result.

I had the best time with my new client creating this beautiful makeover! Our goal today was to eliminate the brassiness while bringing the highlights closer to the scalp for a brighter, more dimensional look.

Using a combination of strategically placed foiled highlights and lowlights, along with hand-painted sections throughout the ends, we were able to create this gorgeous, refreshed look.

Not only was it so much fun creating her new color, but I truly enjoyed getting to know her throughout the process. There’s nothing better than great hair and great conversation!

The technique is toner mixed into the lightner. Something I've been doing since I started doing hair over 40 years ago.

It gives a beautiful natural tone that won't fade or wash out.
