Okay, here is an update on my neck surgery and a long dreaded post ahead….as many know I had cervical disc replacement surgery to decompress nerves and spinal cord compression caused from a significant herniated disc in my neck. I had my second follow up appointment a couple weeks ago with the doctor where they did some tests to check the placement and the healing of the artificial disc along with the rest of my neck. While there I received some good news and some bad news. It has taken us a week or so to process everything that he told us. The doctor explained so much to my husband and I about my neck situation and how to move forward with things. Good news is the surgery did effectively take care of the nerve compression. I do however still have some limited range of motion. I am regaining strength in my arm, but I do have other neck issues going on still. This is nothing the doctor did wrong. I had another herniated disc to begin with, but we were hoping it would be fine once the compression from the other was removed. He did not want to fuse multi levels at that time because it would totally limit my range of motion and we were trying to avoid that. So after about a 45 minute heart to heart conversation with Dr Branch discussing everything with Stephen and I, he said I will be facing another neck surgery in the future, it’s just a matter of time. He is hoping to avoid it for as long as I can because at that point it would totally limit my range of motion. So with lots of prayer, and then guidance from the doctor, he told Stephen and I both he truly feels it’s time I retire from the hair business and sadly we agree. He feels it will only complicate and worsen my symptoms if I continue to do hair. While this was a shock to us, I also know how my body feels and to think about doing hair for 20 more years I know there is no way. Every day house hold chores are still a struggle. It’s a day to day thing right now. I am still having horrible muscle spasms at times and still pain although it is much better than before surgery. The doctor is hoping I will heal and be able to live life and enjoy it and not be in constant pain. When working with my arms up, tilting, bending, and leaning all day, he said it would keep it aggravated and have me in the OR much faster. While my heart is in my work and my salon, my heart and first obligation is in raising my family at home and being able to enjoy them and one day grandkids. Those were also words from my doctor. He said the next surgery could be worse and limit much more and he said he wants me to enjoy my kids, grandkids one day, and family. So please say a prayer for us, especially me, as I am totally heartbroken and have struggled with telling anyone. I have done some peoples hair for 20 years. They are like family to me!!! So I am a hot mess of stress. My family and I can use all the prayers you can give to help guide us into the next phase of life. I know God makes no mistakes and he will take care of us and he can mend my broken heart. ❤️💔🙏🏻 I love all of my clients, this is a total shock for me to have to face reality and know this chapter of my life is coming to an end. Just goes to show how one day you can be fine and the next day your whole world be turned upside down. I know in time with God, my family, and friends we will be just fine, but right now I’m a hot mess! LOL So if you see me out and I am crying….you know why! LOL 💔❤️🙏🏻 Ashley, Melissa, and Amber are still working at the salon so contact them for all your beauty needs!
