You walk into your doctorâs office, exhausted, anxious, bloated, foggy, barely feeling like yourself, hoping for answers.
They glance at your chart.
Ask a few routine questions.
And thenâyou see it.
That look.
The subtle shift in tone as they start labeling you in their head as a WWâWhiny Woman.
You list your symptoms: fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, joint pain, weight fluctuations, insomnia.

And if you question them and ask about hormones, youâre handed a prescription for birth controlâa hormone disruptorâmarketed as the thing that will âbalanceâ your hormones, (even though a hormone disruptor by definition isnât going to provide balance.)
Or worse, they suggest a hysterectomyâeven though your uterus doesnât produce hormones!
Youâre period isnât the problem nor is your uterus, itâs just a SYMPTOM of the problem, but now that you donât have a uterus, youâll just be missing an organ while you still live in hormonal chaos, because they didnât know enough to address the root cause.
Because they donât know what to doâso they do the best they can, with what they have..

Youâre frustrated.
It feels like your body is broken.
It feels like your brain is in a perpetual fog.
You are having heart palpitations and your anxiety is running amok.
Your hormones are kicking your ass and the best thing your doctor can offer is âall your labs are normal, so you must be fine.â

No one even addresses that youâre in perimenopause and itâs like a second puberty, but instead of your b***s getting bigger theyâre shrinking and so are your lips (both upstairs and downstairs), your hair is falling out PLUS you have acne AND bone crushing fatigue.
This is the WORST.
You donât want to be on a bunch of prescriptions, which arenât really addressing whatever is going on, and also have a bunch of side effects.
There HAS to be a better way.

You were made for more.

So, it turns out that there are a lot of perimenopause myths youâve probably heard and been led to believe.
Maybe youâve heard (or you assume):
âYouâre too young to be in perimenopause.â
âPerimenopause lasts just a few years.â
âIf youâre pregnant, you canât be in perimenopause.â
âJust take hormonal birth control to âbalance your hormonesâ.â
But the reality is
â
Biologically perimenopause starts at age 35 for most women, so no, youâre not too young.
Because it starts at age 35 and the average age for women to hit menopause is 51 means it last a few DECADES, not just a few years.
You can get pregnant and be in perimenopause! Your body and hormones change at age 35, but as long as your body is ovulating, you are fertile. And this is why a lot of the advice for post-partum women doesnât make sense, because itâs for someone who is just post-partum but not perimenopausalâŠ
Hormonal birth control is great at preventing pregnancy, but that is because it DISRUPTS your hormones. There is no way for that kind of disruption to have a balancing effect on the body.
These myths have turned into rules and become the standard of care for women in perimenopause, and thatâs the problem.
Because when you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what perimenopause is (which isnât your fault) you end up solving for the wrong problems.
And then you end up doing the wrong things which actually makes things worse, because somebody misinformed you in the first place.

No one ever said that perimenopause is for the faint of heart...the heart palpitations, the brain fog, the lack of moisture and lubrication in your skin, hair, brain and lady bits.
It's honestly all kind of a bummer.
And what we are offered ranges from "sorry, you'll just have to suffer through this phase" to "you could take hormonal birth control" or "it must be all in your mind."
It's rage inducing. At a time when rage is yet another one on a loooong list of symptoms.
I just saw a video of Halle Berry counting down the months until she is in full on menopause (12 months after your last period) and she was celebrating that she was so close, because perimenopause was causing so much disruption in her body and life.
And I've seen countless women counting down the days, weeks and months until they don't have "hormones" any more.
But have you ever stopped to consider that it's not your hormones fault??
And in fact, you actually want to have hormones for as long as humanly possible.
Estrogen is the lubrication for our body and for our brain. Without it, everything dries up including your lips, your hair, your muscles, your brain.
Progesterone keeps our brain healthy and also keeps us from wanting to murder everyone around us.
Testosterone keeps our muscles strong and our libidos high.
So, why do they get such a bad rap?
Because they are massively misunderstood in their function and when they are out of balance they can cause havoc in the body.
But again, that's not their fault. They are simply relaying messages from your body who is just telling you what she needs.

You've hit perimenopause. The dreaded life change that everyone has told you is going to suck.

Itâs a week before your period starts and you are freaking out because for the last few months youâve gotten a huge cyst on your face and itâs painful and itâs huge and it crops up every single month.
You have scars now from the past few months and youâre not 13 for Godâs sake, youâre a grown up and should be free from hormonal acne.
You make an appointment with your doctor and they say, âwe donât know whatâs causing it, but we can give you antibiotics and if YOU think itâs hormonal, you can get on hormonal birth control, but we are not sure what is going on.â
You go fill the prescription for the antibiotics, but you wish you had an answer for what is going on, because you feel like itâs your hormones, but why donât the doctors tell you anything helpful?
And you know the antibiotics will help with any possible infections and to kill the bacteria, but you know youâre going to be dealing with the same thing next month, and antibiotics are so hard on your gut, you know youâre going to have to mitigate the side effects from this âband-aidâ youâve gotten.
You return home wishing there was a better way.
Guess what, sis!
There is!
Imagine listing all of your symptoms, not just from today, but everything you can think of throughout the monthâŠmigraines and/or headaches, blood sugar balance issues (hangry much?), pain during your last period, grogginess in the morning, bloating after meals, etc, etc⊠and figuring out that your cyst is indeed because of hormones (elevated levels of androgens and insulin resistance) and you can put the pieces together to not just get a band-aid each month or be offered hormonal birth control (which is one of the worst things you can do for your hormones, BTW), but to actually solve the issue so that you never have to deal with cysts again.
