October Is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

This month, United Services is joining communities across the country in moving from awareness to action.

Domestic violence does not always leave a visible bruise. It can include patterns of control, intimidation, isolation, manipulation, financial control, threats, humiliation, sexual coercion, and other behaviors used to take power and independence away from another person.

Throughout October, we will be talking about what domestic violence can look like, challenging stigma and blame, sharing ways to support someone you care about, and making sure our community knows where help is available.

Sometimes the first step toward change is simply being willing to see what has been hidden.

See it. Talk about it. Stand with survivors.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This one's close to home for me. CUU exists because I believe everyone deserves to build strength, safety, and a life without fear and isolation. DV can look like financial, emotional, mental, sexual and physical abuse. Each of these has the ability to destroy a persons sense of self and safety.
All month, we're standing with United Services of Connecticut and Smoke and Mirrors, Beauty Loft proud to support Light Beyond the Shadows - Domestic Violence Fundraiser at Montana Nights Axe Throwing - Putnam, CT on October 29th from 5-8pm.

This is a family-friendly night — bring the kids, bring a friend, come raise a little awareness and a lot of support for those facing what's likely the hardest chapter of their lives. See you there! 💜💜

💜 LIGHT BEYOND THE SHADOWS 🕯️

Halloween is known for masks and illusions. For many survivors, however, fear, manipulation, and silence are not costumes. They are daily realities. On this evening, we will work together to “unmask” the truth about domestic violence, break stigma, and ensure survivors know they are not alone.

Light Beyond the Shadows is a community gathering created to raise awareness, show support, create conversation, and bring our community together for a cause that deserves to be talked about.
