When I formulated Dr. Hopiola, I chose not to add synthetic fragrance to perfume the products.

That does not mean they are unscented.

Sweet orange peel oil, neroli, vanilla fruit, and pink grapefruit oil are among the botanical ingredients that contribute to their natural scent profiles.

Their aromas are part of the formulas, and part of the experience I wanted to create.

Can skincare really open, close, or shrink your pores?

Not in the way those words suggest.

Pores do not open and close like doors. Hot water does not open them, and cold water does not close them. Very hot water can actually irritate your skin, which may make pores look more noticeable.

Several things can make pores appear larger, including oil, congestion, irritation, cumulative sun exposure, and the gradual loss of firmness around them as skin ages.

Skincare cannot erase pores. What it can do is help with some of the things that make them stand out.

Gentle cleansing, non-comedogenic products, appropriate exfoliation, and daily sun protection may all help pores look less noticeable.

Scrubbing, squeezing, picking, and over-exfoliating can do the opposite. Irritation can make skin texture, and the pores you are trying so hard to minimize, stand out even more.

So if your pores are bothering you, I would ask a different question:

"What is making my pores look more noticeable right now?"

That is a much more useful place to begin.

Because completely poreless skin is neither realistic nor necessary. Smoother, more refined-looking skin is.
