As a new patient of Myology Sports Massage, I really appreciate the time, attention, and techniques they use to help get me out of pain and back to feeling my best. The combination of cupping and stretching has been extremely beneficial, and on both of my visits, I’ve left the table feeling vastly better than when I arrived. They also have convenient locations throughout Wake County, with a strong presence in North Raleigh. I highly recommend Myology for anyone looking to improve recovery, mobility, and overall well-being.

The tool is visible. The decision is where the expertise lives.
At Myology, our sports massage therapists do more than apply a modality. They read the system.
Before treatment, they observe:
Movement quality.
Compensation patterns.
Force transfer through the kinetic chain.
Your training demands and performance goals.
Then they make a clinical decision:
→ Sports massage
→ Myofascial decompression
→ IASTM
→ Kinesio taping
The method is selected for the person; not pulled from a menu.
The response is measured. The plan is adjusted. Movement is re-educated through active, loaded work.
ASSESS → DECIDE → TREAT → RE-EDUCATE UNDER LOAD
That is Movement IQ Recovery.
The hands deliver the input. The intelligence determines the path.
Clinical perspective: Gray Cook’s movement-system approach and Tom Myers’ Anatomy Trains framework both emphasize integrated movement assessment over isolated symptom chasing.
Save this for your next recovery session: and ask better questions about the “why” behind the method.

THE POSTURAL TAX OF SITTING.
Prolonged sitting is not just uncomfortable. It drives quantifiable fascial densification.
If your hips remain flexed and your thoracic spine remains rounded for hours, fibroblasts lay down collagen haphazardly.
They cross-link your tissue into a rigid matrix.
Stretching cannot reverse architectural changes. Foam rolling cannot undo structural adaptation.
This is not a tight muscle. This is a systems failure.
If you treat only the symptom, you remain trapped in the compensation cycle.
Upgrade your structural foundation.
Movement IQ Recovery introduces targeted tissue decompression and active load to restore fascial glide.
Re-educate the tissue under load. Reduce neurological interference. Improve sensory awareness.
Clinical Insight: Tissue adaptation and fascial densification under prolonged static loading (Dr. Christopher DaPrato, Myofascial Decompression).

THE NEUROMUSCULAR RESET FOR WEEKEND WARRIORS.
You grind 40 hours a week at a desk. Then you drop straight into a heavy WOD or a match with zero mechanical prep.
Your nervous system is trapped between two extremes.
Sedentary holding patterns.
Sudden maximal load.
That friction leaks force.
That friction invites injury.
Stop treating recovery as an afterthought.
Re-educate the system.
Reduce neurological interference.
Improve sensory awareness.
Movement IQ Recovery bridges the gap.
We reset your tissue tone.
We re-educate your kinetic chain.
Your weekend performance must match your ambition.
[Clinical Note: "The body's fascial web transmits force across kinetic chains; mechanical restrictions at one junction alter force transfer globally." : Myers, T.W., Anatomy Trains]

WHY FOAM ROLLING ISN'T ENOUGH. Foam rolling offers temporary neurological down-regulation, but it is not a structural fix. Pressing your body weight into a PVC roller applies broad, indiscriminate pressure across superficial layers. Stubborn fascial adhesions and cross-linked collagen demand targeted shear force and precise tissue separation. Stop treating the symptom with blunt instruments. Upgrade to precision manual therapy like IASTM and Myofascial Decompression. Re-educate the kinetic chain, reduce neurological interference, and improve sensory awareness. Clinical Note: Mechanotransduction via instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization stimulates fibroblast proliferation and realignment of collagen matrices (DaPrato et al.).

Visible abs are not a stability test.
The core is a coordinated pressure-and-control system. Breathing mechanics connect the diaphragm, ribcage, abdominal wall: including transversus abdominis: multifidus and other spinal stabilizers, pelvic floor, pelvis, and limbs.
This is not a single-muscle job or a literally sealed container. It is a dynamic system that manages load and transfers force.
During a Myology sports massage session, we may observe breathing, bracing, trunk position, force transfer, movement presentation, and relevant tissue densifications.
Our process:
ASSESS → DECIDE → TREAT → RE-EDUCATE
When appropriate, sports massage, myofascial decompression, IASTM, or kinesio taping may support the session. Passive treatment alone is not the finish line. Active, loaded movement is used when appropriate to re-educate the system.
Myology provides sports massage and movement-focused bodywork: not physical therapy or a substitute for coaching, athletic training, or medical care.
Save this post. During your next training session, notice your breathing, trunk position, and force transfer: without self-treating pain or injury.
Evidence note: Stuart McGill’s spine-stability work is used as a framework for understanding coordinated trunk control, not as a universal protocol.

YOUR ANKLE IS A HIP PROBLEM
The joint that hurts is not always the joint that is failing.
A 2026 one-season cohort study of 244 elite and sub-elite female soccer players found that greater hip strength, especially ages 16–19 on the dominant leg, and greater ankle dorsiflexion were associated with lower time-loss injury incidence.
Small effects. Hypothesis-generating. Not a screening test or prediction.
The kinetic chain matters:
Ground → ankle → hip.
When force reception changes at one link, the system may route load differently. We look beyond the symptom to how the system receives force and where densifications may change the pattern.
Myology provides sports massage and movement-focused bodywork. Our Movement IQ Recovery approach supports re-education through active, loaded movement, not passive treatment alone.
assess → decide → treat → re-educate
Myology does not diagnose, prevent, or rehabilitate injuries. We are not physical therapy or a substitute for coaching, athletic training, or medical care.
Save this and consider the chain, not just the symptom.
Evidence note: Springer, BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation (2026), one-season cohort of 244 elite and sub-elite female soccer players. Gray Cook’s joint-by-joint framework is used as a conceptual lens, not a diagnostic test.
The expertise is human. AI is one of the tools we use to communicate it.

I was recommended several years ago and finally got on to Rob's schedule for a targeted massage. It was great. His knowledge of the muscles and insertion points was great. My shoulder felt much more relaxed after his session. Highly recommend.

THE POSTURAL TAX OF SITTING. Prolonged desk work isn't just uncomfortable: it drives quantifiable fascial densification.
When your hip flexors remain shortened and your thoracic spine stays flexed for hours, fibroblasts lay down collagen haphazardly, cross-linking tissue into a rigid matrix. Stretching and foam rolling cannot break this down.
This is a systems failure, not a tight muscle.
If your anterior chain is locked, then force transfer through the kinetic chain is compromised.
Solution: Movement IQ Recovery introduces targeted tissue decompression and active load to restore glide. Stop sitting on autopilot. Re-educate the kinetic chain, reduce neurological interference, and improve sensory awareness.
