How does one learn to cut all types of hair, specifically, curly?

First, a foundational understanding of how it all works.

Why it’s there
Where it comes from
How it’s made and how it wears and then…

One practices. A lot. All the time, kinda.

Hopefully, one makes mistakes.
every adjustment
every detail
every choice builds confidence.

I’ve started storing more mannequins at the studio and while everyone thinks they are wigs 😂, they’re actually a large part of my creative tool kit.

These ladies are the only guests without heartbeats so you can trust I’m flipping and reversing things, regularly, for eyes unlike mine to see what I see.

Can you remember a time you made a choice that felt like a mistake? Have you carried it with you as a lesson in growth or a crippling weight?

What’s the difference between a traditional hairstylist and a curl specialist?

Can you spot the differences?

Growth isn’t always spotlighted.

Quiet, unseen, daily obedience… often in dim lighting

Resting, in redemption.

ALL hair is porous.

Consider hair as a fabric.

The vacancies in the threadwork allow for the fabric to bend, be cleansed, softened and reset for wear.

Porosity matters but the goal isn’t to lessen or reduce the fabric’s ability to pass water… and that’s where so many of us falsely land when trying to understand porosity’s role in rehabbing our curls.

Healthy hair begins with water because water IS the reset— it’s the horsepower behind the cleanse, the condition and the overall health of the fabric.

Without the gift of porous hair, we would all be walking around with hair
