❤️ 11 HOUR Red to dark Ash Blonde Transformation✨
This isn’t usually a project I would take on, but she really wanted to be a dark ash blonde. I’m not sure what happened but she had asked her previous stylist for dark ash blonde after being platinum blonde and came out dark burgundy. The stylist tried to remove some of it and toned her ash, but it was still very RED.
I did a thorough color consult on a separate day to make sure she understood the risks of bleaching over bleached hair. And I did a few test strands to see if her hair would break during the process. I made sure she was committed to taking care of it in all the right ways before we embarked on this huge journey.
The steps:
1 hour of clarifying shampoo and color remover, wash and dried
7hours of tediously bleaching every hair trying not to overlap anything that looked more “blonde” than red- it was like BRAIN SURGERY.
30mins shampoo, global light toner to see how dark i needed to tone her
1.5hours dried her hair again, darker root tone, and lighter toner melted to the ends (root was still too light)
1 hour permanent color on root, washed and dried

Grey blending transformation✨
“Grey Blending” can be done in a number of ways: 1) just highlights 2) highlights and lowlights 3) just lowlights 4) demipermanent coverage that give a sheer tint to the grey making them look more “blonde”. It’s not as opaque as permanent color
What is the difference in grey blending and grey coverage? Usually grey blending means- you don’t mind “some grey showing, or you don’t mind the grey looking blonde. It all depends on: the individual client’s grey pattern (how light or dark their hair is), how often they want to come in the salon, do they prefer being more blonde? Or do they identify as being more brunette?
This client identified as being more brunette. She had been dark her whole life and the blonde or even her natural light grey hair she felt “washed her out”. So I came up with a plan based on where here hair was- to do demipermanent lowlights on her. And tone the rest of the blonde as grey as possible. This gives her the illusion of darkness with a soft grow out that she can maintain every 12 weeks.
This does come with possible drawbacks- if I don’t keep a neat pattern that I stick to EVERY time- she’s going to have very dark and muddy ends (which it’s already dark since she’s growing out the dark color from underneath and we didn’t bleach her hair). As the years go in if i stick to the same pattern the color should become more cohesive and look better every session.

Cashmere Winter Blonde✨
I love the challenge of blonding dark hair. Why is dark hair challenging? Because there is so much pigment to break through- most stylists will get impatient and remove the bleach when it is orange. Or they will highlight in too chunky of sections which doesn’t allow product and heat to properly lift the hair to a beautiful light yellow. Dark hair takes patience, time and care to blonde. And while I’m super impatient with a lot of things in life- somehow i have all the patience in the world for hair.
