Mother nature has given us a whooping! Salon is closed and we are waiting to see what happen.

A pedicure is not just a summer thing.

Just in case you are wondering about the impact of a "no show" appointment or a last minute cancelation can have to someone that is self employed. First of all let me say we understand emergencies happen and we are not without empathy. Nor are we perfect ourselves however let me break it down. This is just a rough price.

If your service is $26 and it takes an hour and you work 8 straight hours..
You are making $208.00 for that day.
You make $26 per hour.

That is before all of your expenses. Rent, electricity, product, phone, trash, insurance, taxes.......

Now if 2 people either cancel last minute or don't show in a day it makes it difficult to get anyone else into that appointment.
So that day and you make $156.00. You still are at work for 8 hours and now you make $19.50 per hour.

So basically it would be as if you went to work and your boss says "we will either pay you $26 an hour or $19.50 an hour but it will depend on the day." Again before expenses that stay the same.

Not only do we have a lack of income, but now we have to find an additional hour that we would normally have off to fit a person back in the schedule. Please try to give as much notice as possible and thanks to those of you that have been gracious enough to pay for missed unfilled appointments.

Today is Thanksgiving and I have so much to be thankful for that it is hard to list them all. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband, family, friends and clients that I love with all my heart. On top of that a few days ago my business, A KNACK FOR NAILS Just celebrated 25 years! 25 years! How can that be. I know it wouldn't be what it is without my partners Michelle Bridges Fredette and Linda Marie. I'm so lucky to have them. I think back on one particular day when I was painting the walls in my very first location. The door was open and it was a beautiful day. An older gentleman that would walk the streets in Gardiner poked his head in and said (in his heavy Maine accent) said "what's going in heaah?" I said "it's going to be a nail salon" He said very seriously "there's a hardware store next door" I said "finger nails" He looked puzzled, cocked his head sideways then said "do you think that is gonna go in Gahdnah?" I said "I hope so!" Then he grunted and walked off. I stopped and thought for a minute. Yes it will and here we are 25 years later. A large majority of my clients have been with me since the beginning (Deb Kimball) dont do the math.🤣 Thank you to all my clients (family) for all your support throughout the years.
