My name's Hannah and I make soaps. Totally something people say in real life, right? 😬 But seriously, as a stay at home mom it's been amazing to realize my dream of owning my own small business. I don't think it even clicked that that was my trajectory till all the paperwork was done and the state of South Dakota sent me a congratulatory email on my new small business. Kind of like that time I somehow didn't reeeeally realize I was applying for an ICU nurse position till I had gotten the job and had a minor freak out because I had sworn I would never work in the ICU 😳. It turned out to be my favorite nursing job ever. How do I not realize I'm doing these things till after the fact?

Even though I'm the sole owner, worker, and whatever-needs-to-be-doner for my small business I still consider this a "we" enterprise. Because what you don't see is my kindhearted husband and amazing kids standing behind me. My husband putting up with bars of soap taking over every shelf in our home 🧼🧼🧼 and helping soundboard new scents, business strategies, and parenting solo while I concoct in the kitchen. Also pulling me back from the edge when I am convinced that everything is going to crash and burn, (anybody else struggle with the learning curve of something new? 🙋‍♀️). And all our excited conversations for what we would like to create in this business down the road. And my kids giving up my undivided attention for a few hours a week while I hash out business. Also the simple ways they encourage me, like how they are using the leftover soap ends as "room refreshers" in their bedrooms. So while I might be the official owner on paper, Cozy Bee Naturals is a family endeavor and I couldn't do it without them. I'm so in love with our little clan and our little business.

Let's talk ingredients. We've learned over the years that if you don't know what it is, you probably shouldn't put it in or on your body. The cosmetic industry is especially bad about this. Pthalates have come under scrutiny over the past few years and have been linked to many health concerns including damage to the lungs, liver, kidney, and reproductive system. Yet if they are used as a fragrance stabilizer they do not need to be listed on the product label. Phthalates are found in many common brand gel washes. Here is the ingredient list for one common body wash that is listed on the FDA website as containing pthalates. Note how it is not listed on the ingredient list.

Idk about you but we don't know what most of these ingredients are.
