Time for a fresh start 🌸

Some of you know I had a 3rd surgery last week to remove the right lobe of my thyroid and a 3 cm tumor that was found in a CT scan.
I am comfortable being open about that now in an effort to help encourage others to take care of themselves.
My cousin just reminded me that good health is true wealth.
Often I hear. I'm afraid to have that scan. What if they find something?
Knowledge is power.
If they find something. It's ok. It was already there. Now with the Knowledge you have choices. Treatment, surgery, monitoring, do nothing. Those are all choices.
My choice was to have it removed. Non invasive, non aggressive and completely gone and now I can move on.
I find myself processing everything that has happened to me over the last 6 months.
Still in shock. Full of gratitude.
At some points I didn't think that I was going to survive all of this.
Thankful to be alive and have the opportunity to begin a new.
I am looking forward picking up the pieces and moving on. Regaining myself. Getting back to work and turning the page.

In an effort to turn the page on this chapter as I return home from another surgery.
Maybe it's time to make my mess, my message. If my honesty can help just one person it's worth it.
After a long road of tests, imaging, appointments and so much physical and emotional pain.
I was diagnosed with Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis. A rare diagnosis affecting 1-5% of women.
In September the decision was made to have surgery. The surgery required 3 surgeons and took 10 hours. My condition was more advanced than they had expected. Think of it like a giant spider web of endometrial tissue adhering and invading everything surrounding the uterus. Everything...
I am grateful for the access to quality health care.
I am grateful to the urgent care doctor that suggested to look into it further.
I am most thankful for Dr. E. The first doctor to look at the whole picture and finally put all of the pieces together and assemble my care team. Knowing now how extensive the damage was. He may have just saved my life.
All 3 surgeons and their staff. Thank you.
The nurses. The ones that put the word "care" in healthcare. Thank you.
I am forever grateful for my village. When I was honest enough to say "I don't got this" so many in my life showed up and said "we got this"
Thank you for holding me up when everything felt like it was falling apart.
This is where the message is...
Book the appointment and go. Stop normalizing symptoms. I know it's scary, but go. Now. Make the time. Ask your support system for help and go.
So yes, there is an issue with healthcare and women's issues. 8 years is far to long for the average woman to get an Endometriosis diagnosis.
Change starts with us standing up and advocating for ourselves and with the men in our lives that love us, to unconditionally support us. My husband has not missed one appointment. I would be lost without him.
If something just does not feel right. Please go to the appointment and ask the questions.
You are not crazy.
You are not complaining.
You are worth it.

The surgery was complicated.
My condition was more advanced than the surgeons had anticipated.
The recovery has been challenging. I've had some bumps in the road along the way. Overall I'm improving a little bit at a time.
I'm going to be home recovering for a bit... my next set of follow ups are at the end of the month.
