To the horses that help you understand that not every horse is to be ridden the same way 👏 My default is very dressage based with the horse on the contact. It takes a lot from me to consciously remember that not every horse wants to be ridden that way and to release my “handbrake” mentality. This little chestnut mare reminded me of that today and in return offered to start practicing her stretchy trot. It is one of the best feelings when you and the horse start working together to get a soft, flowy movement.

I’m really asking a lot from the barn lights this evening! Honestly this is one of the worst parts of working a full time job and having horses; running out of daylight. My goal for this evening was a 20 min hill exercise walk for Scooby and at least a few minutes of transitions and lateral work for Charlie. Goal accomplished thanks to a very brave 6 yr old TB 🥰
He’s back! 😍 After a little summer break Charlie is ready to get back into the groove of things. I can’t wait to get him back in the hunter ring for the fall season! Should we try some Hunter derbies too?

It’s crazy to think that 15+ years ago little teenage me was rocking around eventing courses on this pony we got off Craiglist. He was unbalanced, forward, and we were warned he had a bucking problem. One custom fitted saddle later and the bucking issue stopped. Fast forward to this year, he’s still being loved on by a local lesson barn teaching all the beginners ❤️ He may be showing his years now but he’s still that pony I knew all those years ago!

Well I wouldn’t have called today a success but there were small wins. Scooby is not a fan of ponying other horses but we’re working on it. So when he suddenly spooked at a noise he’s normally fine with I had to let Dakota go to keep things from escalating. Good boy Dakota just stopped and then let me pick up the lead while I was still on Scooby. Small wins!
