A lot of people don’t believe a stylist when they say “do not buy your hair care on Amazon, temu, eBay, etc. these products are not real they are fake” but we aren’t lying to you for personal profit as many people seem to believe.

I have been a hairstylist for 11 years, and my training in beauty school has taught me about various issues within the industry. One significant concern is package duping, where individuals on platforms like Amazon create packaging that closely resembles genuine professional products. These counterfeiters fill the bottles with low-quality, inexpensive ingredients. You can often identify these fake products by subtle discrepancies, such as slight variations in the bottle color, differences in the font on the label, or even changes in scent some are almost completely indistinguishable from the original packaging.

While some counterfeiters attempt to replicate the scent by using publicly available fragrance formulas from companies, others are less meticulous. Additionally, there are instances when professional brands like Redken, Paul Mitchell, Wella, Oribe, and Aveda suffer damage to large shipments. In these cases, they may sell broken or leaking products to large distributors in China and Taiwan, who then refill these bottles with inexpensive ingredients from brands like Suave or Aussie, even their own mixtures where we don’t know what is inside of it, compromising the quality of the original product.

It’s not illegal to make dupes of designer clothes, jewelry, bags, makeup, or hair care and even some medications or multivitamins aren’t exempt from these rules on Amazon, temu, SHEIN, and eBay. There’s thousands of fake designer items on the market and there’s thousands of dupes online for hair care and makeup as well. Buy from real places in person and buy from your stylist to avoid this happening to you.
